turn signals stopped working

I took my dash out to redo the gauges, but when I put it back in and started her up something was burning, so I switched it all off and checked the wiring and started again but now I don't have any turn signals.  This may have been coincidence though.

When I flick the turn signal switch nothing happens.  It doesn't even make the clicking noise.  Does this mean it could be the flasher unit?

The wiring is fine, because I have my turn signals wired up to the brake lights, so when I brake while signalling one of the lights flashes instead of going off.  but it's going off when I signal, but not flashing.

Any advice please guys?

Maybe something to look at, Sounds like the problem I just fixed. Its pretty easy to pinch that ribbon wire, assuming you loosened the column to work on the dash as I had to.
