What are restoration shops charging

We're at $47 an hour right now. It's all the local market will bear. yeah I know, we're cheap. haha it doesnt mean we do cheap work though. 98% of what we do is restoration or custom work.

In a big city, 100 bucks an hour is around the minimum. but in Fargo, North Dakota, we dont have alot of people making high dollar salarys to charge that much money. We wish we did. trust me, we do. haha

also our overhead is quite cheap compared to Commiefornia or the east coast.

The resto' shop I work at part time charges $88.00 an hour. I take $35.00 of that an hour. I work at a collision shop durring the day though, they charge usuall rate, $55.00 for body $26.00 for paint materails. When I worked on jobs for *not so close of a friend* I charged $85.00 an hour and made some good cash, when I got paid! No more favors from me if you know what I mean.

I saw some work a guy had done in southern IL, for $35 an hour it is in paint on a rotissery, looks like good work and sounds like a great price.

This isn't hourly but, I recently called a local resto shop to inquire and before the guy even heard the type of car or anything about the project he said $50K. He was probly low balling.

I went to year 1 yesterday, they are doing a 6? camaro for some saudi prince and the PM wouldn't even tell what that was costing.

Moral of the story is do as much as you can yourself.

I live in Alaska. Of that $85.00 I charge on my own behalf. I take $25.00 of that and put it towards mat. I still do ok though most of the time.

We charge $48 per hour, but sometimes I will do the simple stuff for friends for $25 per hour.

My price right now is $40.00 an hr. By Jan. its going up to $45. Most other shops in my area are $65. But their over head is more then mine. Their shops are newer. One of the shops that charge more and don't do the work that I do just went under. They where $65. My shop is old and in my back yard but its payed for. So I don't have to charge as much. All that said it still costs in my shop at least $20,000 to $30,000 to do a compleat ground up. But I refuse to cut any corners. If Your ground up costs less someone is cutting corners somewhere.

Usually, It all depends on the amount of problems that pop up. Like how much rust and how well the replacement panels fit. How much you spend on a rebuild (Motor,Trany and Rear end). Do you want to modify anything. Like change from an auto to a 4-speed. Has it been it a bad collision and need frame work? Do you change your mind mid stream? There are so many variables. Thats why I can't give you a nailed down price and work off of time and materials.

Here in San Antonio there is a mopar restoration shop . I called a couple years back about a  possible paint job and they told me its about 10K for a full nut and bolt restoration.   Seen a nice 69 R/T  come out of that shop.   paintshop101.com

if they only charge 10k for a full nut and bolt restoration and do it good i'll farm everything out to them and retire.
