has anyone put a keisler 5 speed in..going from auto to manual? if so did you use the sheetmeatal they provide in the kit fot the tunnel hump? I'm getting ready to install and have heard from a couple of people the sheetmetal they give does'nt provide a lot of room..any thoughts?

I did the conversion awhile ago and had the hump from them to install.  I decided not to use it as I could add it at a later date.  I like the look with out the hump, and I could use my existing auto trans carpet.  All you have to do is add an adapter to shift the stick over to go through the hump hole.  No biggie. Good luck.  Here is a picture, though not too good, of my shifter without the hump! :icon_smile_tongue:

so you just used the piece of sheetmetal that came with the kit? thats what i have..I don't want to weld in a factory style hump.

I used it, but it doesn't offer a lot of clearance. It requires a fair amount of forming and triming to get it to work. It's a peice of crap really.

Do you have a console? If so, do NOT follow the template provided by Keisler. It will have you unnecessarily removing the front console bracket. Make your cut around the bracket and leave it in place. I might have some pictures somewhere....

Here you go...

how long the driveshaft is whit Keisler 5-speed in 69 charger, whit RB and 8 3/4 rear,I hope at someone can measure it

69BlackChargerRT

Yeah, I just used the sheetmetal piece that was supplied and welded that in over the hole I cut through the floorboard.  Piece of cake and looks clean.  Make sure the welds are good so not to let any water up and in.  I did not have a console and if you do use the template, cut short, as you can always trim more out as needed.

As far as the driveshaft goes, I had one made here at a local shop instead of using the one Kiesler has to offer.  I do not have the measurements handy, sorry.

Was the keisler box worth it ? Did you go with the hyd clutch , and how much did it really cost you ? Compare the driveabilty of 833 vs k-box

emanscharger

Hopefully I'll know in the very near future if it was worth it..i went with keisler..well first i thought a tremec was a no brainer..my hemi makes 740 horse..and then i found out about the keisler unit..the modified tail piece..and the whole conversion package..i opted for the lakewood motified bellhousing..specs 800 pound clutch.. I went with the mechanical linkage.. the whole thing was about 5600.00 with shipping..a few small bumps in the road..like wrong isolater mount for tranny..things like that..Keith and rick in tech support are awesome too..

It's only "worth it" if you're going to drive it. It's a lot of money, no doubt. If you're scared to kill some bugs or get some rock chips, spend your money elsewhere. If you enjoy beating on your car regularly, than this is the mod for you.

I went hydraulic. I spent right at $5K with a few discounts for an auto to 5 spd conversion.

A good shifting 833 is hard to beat. Much easier to find 3rd gear in a hurry. Tremec takes a while to break-in.
Gear spacing is better in the Tremec.  Can't argue with five gears and a .64 OD. I run 4.10's and cruise at 80 mph no sweat.

I am going to enjoy beating on my car   I have 410's as well..what do you have for a motor?

Rolling_Thunder

the Tremec trans is a kick ass set up...     im running 3.55's so at 80mph im turning 2100rpm....      it does taker a while to break in the box - other than that i have no complaints about it...     i also like the "feel" alot better than an 833...     the 833 feels mushy to me - almost to the point where i dont know if im in gear or not...      with the tremec i know...     but thats just me.

...what do you have for a motor?
Low deck stroker. E-heads. 237 @ 0.050 cam. It likes to rev.

I ran 3.55s for quite a while. 80 mph was great. 70 mph was barely off-idle and pretty much demanded downshifting for even modest acceleration. I was cruising on the idle transfer circuit on the carb making for crappy gas mileage.

The 4.10s have me cruising just below the power band. Haven't done much racing, but it should put me through the traps around 5500 rpm which is perfect.

The only down side was on regular street tires was that WOT wasn't an option in 1st or 2nd. I was hazing my 275-50-17s up to third gear. Drag radials fixed that for the most part.
