Decided to pull the plugs out on the lizard and check the compression on it before I pull the covers over it and put it way for the winter.

Here are the results.

Cylinder no. 1.....145 PSI

So what do you think? I know cylinder 8 plug looks a little wet but thats just because they were not firing when I was compression checking and the fuel got in them a bit.
Spark plugs looked pretty good to me except for no 6 and 7 (carbon deposits) and maybe 3 and 8 ? (little carbon on sides)

Still having that overheat issue posted earlier.

looks good to me the compression is even & the plugs are as well
is the pcv valve connected to the carb base or the rear intake runner ? it could be coloring the rear plugs

pcv valve on my 440 goes in the carb base at the front and connects into the top of the driver side valve cover

Some questions , if you don't mind.

How are you doing the compression test ?
Carb wired "open" ?
All 8 plugs out ?
4 bumps only per hole ?
1 st bump, 75 % of the 4 th and final bump ?

What Intake manifold and camshaft are you running ? What Pistons ?

Overall looks pretty good !

How are you doing the compression test ? with this...see attached photo
Carb wired "open" ? no. why would I have to do that when compression checking. Never heard of that one before.
All 8 plugs out ? No,  I took them out one at a time. checked the compression and them put that plug back in and went on to the next one. does that make a difference?
4 bumps only per hole ? I thought you ran the motor as many bumps as you could till the compression tester stopped moving up?
1 st bump, 75 % of the 4 th and final bump ?

What Intake manifold and camshaft are you running ? What Pistons ? Crane cam (Very similar to a six pack purple cam) and stock pistons/rings.

Overall looks pretty good !

Wiring the carb wide open, with all 8 plugs out and the ignition disabled, gives a constant cranking speed, consistent across all 8 cylinders for the purposes of comparitive testing.
4 bumps only, the first being 75 % of the fourth and final, is relating strictly to the rings, and their sealing.

If you continue to keep cranking, the engine will act as a compressor, and eventually keep building pressure like the one in the garage for filling a tire.
Just nicer on the 4 only thing to plot the effective cylinder pressure as per your cam timing to try and look at the heating problem you mentioned, but no matter.

Good info. I'll remember this next time. I done for the year pulling the plugs outta that pig for now.

thanks

that wont happen, the exhaust valve opens and dumps the presure out the exhaust puipe and not into a sealed can.
