dowel pin removal

please help here guys..I'm trying to get the factory dowel pins out of my block..I'm setting up a lakewood bellhousing..and have to put the offset dowels in. I tried to pull them out with vice grips..did'nt even budge them..you can't get to them from the back to bang then foward..it's a 426 block..any suggestions?

I use a dowel pin puller.  That will knock them right out.  Is the block in the car?  That makes it tougher to get to.

   the engine is out of the car..the dowel pin remover ..is it an easy tool to use? and easy to locate one?

I've heated them up  and that made them easier to extract

   any decent machine shop should have them, they are very easy to use.   bassically has a end the clamps down around the dowl and a slide hammer pulls them right out.

often you can use a punch from the front if the hole is open

They're 1/2" dowels IIRC.

Drill out the center of the dowel (all the way through) and tap it for a 3/8" NF. Jack it out with a cap screw.

thanks for all your help guys..I wound up welding nuts on to the dowels..then pulling them with a slide hammer with a thread on the end..worked awesome.
