Well boat race season is over and all I think about is finishing my car . The 472 hemi is almost done and I'm finishing up body work , I had to recountour the entire nose to make it fit properly , you will also notice the homemade z-brackets .

Looking good from what I can see. I remember you saying in an earlier post that you used a GM electric headlight motor correct? I found a few at the local wrecking yards here as well that I'm grabing next weekend from them. Tomorrow I will be working on my clone as well, just not as far alone as you are.

I worked on an electric headlight door system for 2 weeks , and I determined that one motor did not have  enough power , I was warned of this from mike G . And then I had the whole issue of motor limits , so I went with brand new GTO actuators , its simple and it looks almost like factory and works awesome .

I want it to be different , so I.m leaning towards something in a blue family , I very much like a 2000 Honda color called electron blue pearl , ppg code 5676 , and a white tail

More pic's , I want to point out the headlight door access plate in which the door could be removed without removing the nose and also I closed up the nose to fender gap .

Janak's, but I'll be modifiing the nose, and as you know I made my own steel window plug. I've been working on my Daytona clone lately too, just nothing interesting enough to post any pictures of :-\

Quick question for you , I looked back at a post you had for interior picture wanted , the filler panel under rear window where the package tray meets , is that rusty panel covered with vinyl ?

The Janek nose that we put on Howie's car doesn't have the same side radius as the fender. This nose is one that he bought used and it may be an early version. Anyone else have any problems in this area. We're going to alter it to fit a little better, radius wise. Kind of slowed us down a little, but cooler weather is coming so we should get a lot more accomplished now.

It took a lot of fiberglass work and grinding to get the doors to follow the countour of nose

Larry mine was the same way , according to Janek , when a customer orders a nose he will ask you the outside to outside fender measurements . I had the same problem ,I had to relief cut the nose in the middle of the fender side , then temporally push it out to the proper radius , then glass the outside then do body work , then glass the inside . Remember when I talked to you about vinyl ester resin vs general resin , this is part of the problem [SHRINKAGE ] !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

   No you need a peice of sheetmetal  attached to form a channel under where the glass sits, shaped at a right angle so that the back edge of the  package tray will fit into it. Hope that makes sense.  Al

When I first got my parts from Janak, I mocked the nose up on the fenders while they were still on the '70 Donor car. ( See first pic) The fit was very good in my opinion, especially since it was only balanced on a couple of milk crates ::)

I did provide Ted with a template of my fenders, and according to him all '70 Charger fenders are not the same...At the time I thought this was a bunch of B.S, but from my initial fitting the nose cone Ted made for me does seem to fit my fenders well. I'll find out for sure in a few weeks when I bolt it up for real for the first time.

The fender scoops (Second pic) actually fit the tops of the fenders nicely. I've seen some guys have alot of problems with huge gaps under their scoops, but mine fit just fine.

The entire kit was $6500 plus shipping, I got my parts in Feburary of 2005 (SHIT! HAS IT BEEN THAT LONG? ) It took almost exactly Seven months from the first phone call I made to Ted to the time Fed-Ex dropped the parts off at my door...I'm very pleased with the quality of most of the parts...The wing is especially nice, the nose cone is very straight and fits my fenders well...the front valance, headlight doors, front spoiler, fender scoops,etc. are all fine. Some of the parts, however such as the fiberglass rear window plug -just ain't gonna get it on this car...it did make an excellent pattern for making my steel rear window plug, though. ;D I'll also be making my own steel headlight pivot mechanism, latch tray and a few other things, useing Ted's parts as a pattern.

What have you decided about the z-braces? Are you going to stay with the fiberglass pieces? That Superbird clone that I looked at last week had the Janek f/g z-braces and it shook badly at idle. I would hate to see what happens out on some of these rough roads. I know we got into a heated discussion last year regarding steel vs f/g and as time goes on I see the necessity in a few areas. Actually, I think the only real weak link as far as steel vs f/g is those z-braces. I have Howie's nose mocked up with the f/g z-braces for now but we already have a set of generic steel z-braces that we plan to copy and build. I don't expect them to be very expensive. They're not that complicated. With your expertise in steel fab, you could copy those z-braces that you have in just a few hours.

Exactly what I was thinking, Larry.  I tend to over-build things, make them stronger than what they need to be - any of Ted's parts that are deemed by me to be too weak to stand up to my punishment will be used as a pattern and fabricated by me in steel...

Sorry Larry, I was asking Chris about his parts since he was showing a pic of the Janek f/g z-braces. I knew that yours were steel. I won't use the f/g z-braces under any circumstance. I think that anyone with a little fab knowledge could build their own from sheet metal using the f/g versions as a template. Have you thought anymore about building the nose assemblies and selling them?

Haven't given any thought , as far as the stinger nose , it takes way to long to make it work , because it fits like shit out of the box !
