Just wonder if anybody got any pics of Tim Welborn's 1971 Hemi Charger collection?  There is an article about him in the new Hemings muscle mag.

I live in the same city as him. He has like 30 cars or something but I've tried talking to him twice before and he just gave me the snob treatment. I could care less what hes' got after that.

He's got some beautiful cars, but after the way he basically told me to go to hell at a carshow a couple of times, well, you know what I mean.

I read that article a few weeks ago!On the front cover it has a heading about his 71 Charger collection but you open up the mag and there is not 1 real pic of a Charger..........I was very dissapointed! :icon_smile_sad:

I do believe that Tim has 10 of the 71 HEMI cars, some being Charger R/T's and others being Charger Superbee's.  He also has a few other HEMI cars, 1 being a HEMI Daytona that I know of, a HEMI 500, and a few of the E-bodies. I know he has something along the lines of 4 Daytona's and 3-5 Superbirds as well.

gorgeous collection of cars. I'll see if I can find any of the pictures I have of his cars.

Where is this guy located? I read an article on a guy around 1983 or so and he had many many hemi cars. He was snagging them up during the gas crunch of the mid 70s. He got a hemi Challenger for $100 and a girl gave him a 1970 hemi road runner that hit a bridge and damaged a front fender. The article was several pages long. He had two quonset huts filled with hemi cars. That was, as said, 20 plus years ago. This guy wasn't Marvin Hughes, Otis, or any of the well know guys at the time.

He is 40 miles outside of Auburn, Alabama, and seems to have one of everything from the late 60's thru early 70's and is in charge of the upkeep of the Richard Petty 73 Nascar charger, and a few other things. he's got survivor Daytonas, Hemi Cudas, Hemi Chargers, etc.

I guess I should say why I don't care for him. There was a show in Alex City a few years back called "Octoberfest" or something like that, and he drove up in a beautiful blue and white 70 Charger. I tried talking to him and his friends about it and even called that car rolling artwork. Well, I guess he thought it was stupid or something because he and his older friends just started laughing at me. Basically trying to make me feel stupid. I played it nice and told them to have a nice day but it still left a bad taste.

The next year I saw him in a green 71 Hemi Super Bee at one of the local cruise ins. It was a beautiful fully restored car. I wanted to ask him about it, but he was talking to another guy. I waited a minuite or so for him to finish so I could ask him about his car and he basically avoided looking at me. Just didn't want to talk to me I suppose.

Put 2 and 2 together and it just seems like he doesn't want to talk to anyone who isn't rich or snobby. I don't look like a million bucks so I guess he thought I wasn't worthy of his time.

I'm not whining, but if he wants to be a prick, I've got no use for him.

It'll be ok though. As soon as I get my 70 RT Charger back on the road I know someone will tell him about it and sooner or later he'll come around asking about my real RT.  I wouldn't sell it to him for a million bucks though.

You'd be suprised about the Mopars down here in central Alabama. I could tell you about a burnt orange 70 Hemi Charger 4 speed survivor with 18,000 original miles and it's original paint just 35 minuites from my house but I'll spare you the details.

Speakin' of 70 Chargers....I have a friend in town that has a 70 Charger R/T with the 440-6pak and 4spd with the super trak pak package dana out back.  Sublime and Black top and interior with buckets/console.  The car has on 42k on it to boot!  did some serious storage time!

I tried to buy it from him at one point and he wouldn't sell....then when I wasn't ready(financially)he blindsided me with an offer of 7,900.00 would take it home!  I scrambled for the next 2 months to scrape up the money and he changed his mind again and decide to restify it!  Which he has!  looks good to!  almost completely done!

I would imagine that with all the hype goin' on about the DOH movie boostin' prices.....he'll hold out for big money now!!

Hey guys,..
I've been to his house and saw the majority of his collection if not all of them. From what I remember, he has 18 of the '71 Hemi B-bodies that were built that year, most all Charger R/T's and Superbee's... As Dave has mentioned, he has a Hemi Daytona and a Hemi C500 along with TA's and I believe a AAR... I'm not sure about his interaction at the local show level, but he was quite the host at his house and made, to me, time to talk with all.... Inclusive of his collector car list, he also owns one of Bobby Issac's K&K Insurance Daytonas... It's the real deal from what he told me... Only thing is that it has a new Hemi crate motor in it.. Oh darn !!!!

Sorry, but don't have any pics here in Iraq to post of the collection, but if I can get some before or after I get home in a few weeks, I'll post if the threads still active....

Cheers,

I met him at the 2004 Mopar Nats. He came up and asked about buying my dad's Butterscotch '71 R/T 440 six pack. He was not pushy or anything...just let dad know that if and when he wanted to sell let him know.

I never got the impression he was rude and he was talking to quite a few people under the tent his car was in.

This is one of the '71 Hemi's with Tim on the left in the background. I think this is his dad's old car or his dad had one just like it.
