I bought a 7.5 horse , 80 gal compressor less than a year ago and I paid for a two year warranty . They gave they company number for the company who made the compressor [ U.S GENERAL ] and at first they only offered me parts to fix it myself in which I agreed , then after further thought I reconsidered because I paid for someone to come fix it . It needs a reed plate , which I could fix in about one hour , but why should I have to fix it , isn't  that why I paid an extra 200.00 for !  And I know how these company's work , there going to say oh you worked on it so your warranty is void ! The bottom line is that this compressor was 500 cheaper than a local company , but after this bullshit I would gladly pay an extra 500 !!!!!!!!!!!!

IMO they have some cheap tools and they hare good for some things.  However, big ticket items I will pay a bit more for.

Sorry about your issue.

Most warranties require you to transport the item to the repair station.  If your warranty happens to be one that will service the item in your home, then simply ask them to come and service it.  If it is one that requires you to transport the item to them, then transport.  If that is too much trouble and they allow you to fix it yourself, just confirm in writing that such repair will have no effect on the remaining warranty.  Ther is an issue concerning who you have the contract with, harbor or the manufacturer (called privity of contract as vainglory should be learning).  What you wrote above does not indicate any wrongdoing by harbor freight whatsoever.  Kim

I gave up waiting for a call , so I pulled it apart and the head gaskit was blown through . what worries me is that this compressor is only less than a year old .

Lord Warlock

Thats a shame, compressors should last longer than that, even the cheap ones.  My cheapo craftsman 3.5 horse 25 gallon still runs fine after 25 years.  I want a better one but this one just won't die.  I want to go for a 60 gallon uprght....maybe i can kill it spraying primer (but doubt it since it worked its butt off for 2 years on the last project)

Sorry to hear of your problems and I hope you get it resolved, but is a good reminder of the Adage "you get what you pay for"...I've been zingged on that one more times than I can to remember!

Plus, you'd think the Chinese Communists (Chicoms) who make all that stuff would keep a better eye on the slave laborers that make it!

Good luck!

So from now on every 6 months I will call for a top end kit , then I will order a new pump right before the warranty expires .

Most warranties are a joke anyway. If the stuff is that good it shouldn't break. At least within the first few years. After that who knows what will happen.
