Making a long story short the build up of my charger was going to be a project between my father and I. Lately there has been alot of tension between the two of us, so I have had to start accepting the fact that this this may be somthing that I will do on my own,.. with that in mind..
My goals (as far fetched as they may sound) is 550 HP on pump gas. Now keep in mind I really dont know jack about these older cars, so tell me if Im on the right track.

First for the bottom end, I wanted to go with a stroker kit from 440source, either the 500 or the 512, now if I go that route, what are my options for aftermarket heads? The site says that with the 17CC dished pistons it would give me the ideal compression ratio of 9.5 (for pump gas), they then go on to list Indy, and the Edelbrock Victor heads. Now I really think that Indys are an over kill for my needs, and I am not a fan of the offset roller rockers Id have to run if I went with the Victors (is that correct, I got that from doing some research on this site), Can I run the regular Edelbrock Perf RPM heads with one of the stroker kits and still have the same pump gas results? Also which cam would best suit my goals? Do I even need to get a cam to get the most out of the stroker? As crazy as this may sound I really dont like the loppy idle that the bigger cams give, but I would like a lil aggressive idle. Also,. will a standard .30 bore be needed with one of these stroker kts?

Thats my main set of questions, the others I feel I can find on my own,.. these have just a lil harder to figure out on my own.

Thanks in advance.

Some generalizations that may help you;

Aluminum heads like a bit more "ideal" compression for pump gas, than iron, due to the quicker heat dissipation. 9.5 for Iron, 10 and, "maybe a bit", for an Aluminum  head on pump gas.

The bigger the engine, usually, the bigger the cam for a targeted result.  Bigger engines absorb the cam events more. What may be "bumpy" Cam in a 383, may sound slightly "mundane" in a 500 " deal.

I'm sure if you ask, Firefighter3931, and Chryco, will chime in for a Cam rec., once you nailed your combo down more.

Yes, regular "Performer RPM" heads will work, provided you get the desired Compression Ratio Pistons in your stroker kit for pump gas. (see above)

The oversize Pistons you require in your kit, (ie; .030"), depend upon how severely worn the cylinders are in the "core" block you're using for the build.
Many Forged Piston Stroker kits, work with a common bore size of 4.375", which is a .055" overbore on a 440("std" @ 4.320"). Pretty much any 440 will clean-up at a .055" overbore from std.

Hope this helps out.

I was able to build 525 gross  HP using a 440 with ported 906 heads , stock exhaust manifolds into 2.5 " TT1 exhaust  & a 6 pack & a custom Lunati cam
550 with with 500 ci should be easy with headers & any head including stock iron heads ported
