I am converting my '68 Charger from a column shifted auto to a stock floor shifted auto. It is a 727.

The order of the gears on my column indicator as well as the console indicator is:

P-R-N-D-2-1

How does this order correspond to the shifter gear plate (see attached picture)? From what I can tell,

1 = P
2 = Nothing (Is this R possibly? If so, will the transmission keep the shifter from sliding into P or N?)
3 = R
4 = N
5 = D
6 = 2
7 = Nothing, as the spring loaded shift selector cannot physically slide into the #7 slot.

Can someone please clarify this for me?

Thanks,

Chris

1 is the slot to lock park into place
2 is nothing
3 is reverse
4 is N & drive in the rear end of the opening the shifter can float between the 2 without a detent
5 is 2 nd
6 is 1 st

I did not notice the reverse shifter pattern until now. I think I'll stay with the stock pattern :P
