this engine has a forged steel crankshaft factory and 4barrel manifold, closed chamber heads , but the right front engine stamp has a code
D383   10  6   2  but no    HP  stamp  is it still considered a HP engine , and were can you find the engine serial number that matchs the vin code???   what is the r for ???

it should be a 67 Casting for 68 production . D should be a 68 engine but it shouldn`t have closed chamber heads if it is a 68
the 68 engines had the order # stamped on the lip where the tanny bolts onto the rear of the block
not sure what the R is for

383= Displacement

R= Regular fuel (low compression 2-barrel motor)

2261= Build date October 6, 1967 (matches top pad stamping 10 6)

1503= Sequence number, the 1503rd built that day.
