:icon_smile_dissapprove: Our squadron just got word that we will be the first Herk to touch down at our new "home" at Cannon AFB just outside of the booming "metropolis" known as Clovis, New Mexico.  :icon_smile_dissapprove:  AFSOC will officially take control of Cannon AFB in October of next year and we're leading the split of forces from Hurlburt.

Cannon was originally slated to close under the BRAC, but politics (as usual), triumphed over reason, thanks to the "legalized mafioso" lobbyists in Clovis known as the "Committee of Fifty".

All I know is that there are a LOT of guys making alternative plans like rats on a sinking ship before thousands of us in the 16th SOW move out to Clovis.  Since I've only been in AFSOC for a year and a half, I'm rather stuck and don't have much choice.

Oh well- at LEAST there is a nice car club out there and they put on a pretty good show in the summer!  :-\
That is if I can keep from getting my Charger STOLEN!!!!  :flame:   Good thing the authorities honor the "Wyatt Earp" gun law.  You better damn well bet I'll be packin in plain sight whenever I take the Charger out of the garage!  :nono:

The crime rate in Clovis is apparently extrememly high for such a small town of just over 32K people- especially robbery.

Anyone from the Clovis/Portales area here, feel free to chime in and add or subtract from the bad news that I've received!!!  :icon_smile_blackeye:

That sucks as far as the crime and ending up in some podunk town... bowever, I always like seeing NM and there is killer camping, hiking and mountain biking up North from what I hear...

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
      a liberal, oh fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable!

Man !!! I drove by there once on my way to Page, AZ and to tell you the truth, I'm glad I was driving through..............  One good point is you may be able to find some rust-free sheetmetal, albeit, probably dented pretty good.............

Good luck with the move and hope everything works out..............

Clovis! That place rocks!

You're lucky, at least your car will not rust!

Maybe they'll change their minds by next year & you can stay in Florida. :icon_smile_big:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

We moved to New Mexico four years ago.  The one thing that stands out is that the weather here is wonderful, usually not too hot or too cold.  Some good Mopar Clubs in the state along with lots of really nice cars.  It is not all roses, but in general, a nice place to live.  If you want some info on the clubs go to Mopar Muscle Club of New Mexico website which is the clube we belong to.  Best wishes.
