Woman Dragged Behind Vehicle Near Denver

By KIM NGUYEN
Associated Press Writer

DENVER (AP) -- A woman was tied to a vehicle with a rope and dragged through suburban streets in a gruesome crime that left a trail of blood more than a mile long, police said.

Neighbors discovered the woman's body before dawn Monday about 20 miles south of Denver. On Tuesday, sheriff's deputies were still trying to learn her identity.

The victim's face was unrecognizable and an orange tow rope was found around her neck, said Nancy Foley, who lives next door to the house where the body was found.

"I was trying to sleep last night, thinking about how this poor lady was dragged, treated worse than an animal," Foley said. "She was really mangled."

It was unclear whether the woman died from the dragging injuries. Autopsy results were expected Wednesday.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Kim Castellano said investigators Tuesday detained several witnesses for questioning. No one had been arrested or identified as a possible suspect, she said.

A photo of an unidentified couple was found nearby, but investigators did not know whether it was connected to the death, Castellano said.

Investigators were checking missing-person reports for clues.

Authorities stepped up patrols in the once-quiet neighborhood, and residents were locking their doors at night, Foley said.

"It's a very safe neighborhood, or it has been, anyway," she said.

The blood was cleaned off the paved road, but traces remained, upsetting neighbors.

"We don't want to attract any more attention than what we're already getting. This is our little piece of heaven," Foley said.

You know this happen before in Texas I think but it was a guy who die and it was on all the TV stations and the FBI was working on it. This sounds just as bad and so far I have just seen it on AP news. There should be a all out man hunt going on for who ever did it. I don't care what she did, it was a terrible thing to do.

As for those who think the samething should be done to who ever drove the car, usually I am all against that sort of thing but this time I agree. Well maybe not, but they should rot in jail for their rest of their lives that for sure.

There should also be a big reward out for info. if the police don't solve it very soon. I don't care if it was a nice little peaceful town, lets have this on the front page of every major newspaper tomorrow.

Oh wait, those whiny lawyers are busy representing all the detainees at Gitmo. :D

What makes you think she pissed someone off?.......... Random acts of violence, if this is what it is, is just that, random........  Maybe she replied in a cold way to someone's thread in a discussion board.......

Man accused of dragging woman to her death
POSTED: 1:24 p.m. EDT, September 20, 2006

CASTLE ROCK, Colorado (AP) -- A man in a photo found at the crime scene was arrested in the death of a woman whose body was found after she was dragged behind a vehicle for at least a mile, authorities said Wednesday.

Jose Luis Rubi-Nava, 36, was arrested Tuesday night on a charge of first-degree murder and was being held without bail in the Douglas County jail, Sheriff Dave Weaver said.

He said the woman had not yet been identified.

Weaver said Rubi-Nava was the man in a photograph found near the woman's body, discovered Monday in a subdivision about 20 miles south of Denver.

The photo had been released to the public, and Weaver said without elaborating that tips had helped lead to the arrest.

The picture shows a couple who appear to be in their 30s; he is leaning with his arm on the woman's shoulder; she is looking away from the camera.

Weaver did not say whether a woman who also appeared in the photo had been identified

Federal officials had placed an immigration hold on Rubi-Nava, Weaver said.

"an immigration hold"???

So is that what they call it now?

I always thought it was supose to be called Suspected of murder?

Another reason for tougher border control and if it is him that did it, may he rot in jail with "Old-Glory" hanging in front of him..........

What about innocent until proven guilty? They just found a picture of him and a woman on the streets. He was recognised from that photo. At least that is what I am getting from the article. I don't know but that isn't much proof. I hope just as much as you do that they catch the person who did this. I think you lot might be getting carried away a bit, you don't know what she did (or maybe she actually didn't do anything) to get the treatment she got. Either way I don't believe anyone should be treated like this. It is just that I feel worse for the innocent girl on her way home that was caught by a maniac than for the crackhead that during a drug deal shot a supplier and took his dope and now his friends caught up with her.

The cnn.com article does tell of the Sheriff getting "tips" about the incident, so it's not just based on recognition from a photo........  At the very least, if he's illegal, he should pay the piper for that one........

I believe the tips only referred to the fact that people recognised the guy from the photo and reported that and that that lead to his arrest. But anyways I do agree that he is illegal and that he should be send back or apply for a green card if there are circumstances that apply for him to become a legal citizen.

If he's illegal, there shouldn't be any applying here for a green card if he's not guilty. He should have to do that back in Mexico.............  Send him back.. Get'er done.......

Thats messed up, they look like a normal couple in the pic, but I guess sometimes people just snap and you dont know what happens, like that mother that drowned her kids in the bathtub a couple of years ago.

dodge freak

Most of the people in jail were "normal " people, they just snap one time or were high on dope or alcohol . Its funny that some people think they can tell who's good and who's bad just by looking at them. Sometimes sure but not often.

These people who kill their own kids or partner who do or why do they think they should. You have and raise kids but you don't "own" them, same with your lover, they want to leave you oh well its their right to do so. Wish everybody could get that though their heads.

PS-as for me he looks like a guy who could have did it, only problem is so do many other guys.

Charger Aficionado

It's funny how many idiot criminals leave a calling card, Driver's licence, etc at the crime scene...  It happened one time at work for me, and it went great from there...  I mentioned to the guy that I saw him drop the I.D. badge when reviewing the security tapes, and I "knew what had happened"...  The guy SPILLS his guts...  Too funny...

i don't understand how you can go from that photo to saying
