Should any kind of sealant be put on a freeze plug before it is installed or does the tight fit alone keep it from leaking? Thanks.

if using steel plugs i always smear a thin layer on the back side , to help against corrosion , even though antifreeze is used  .  sealer on the sides , can do it doesn't matter as it gets squeezed out . but the only thing is the excess can end up floating around in side the block / heads .  sticking in the thermostat / pump or  blocking a water way in the head gasket  depending how much is used. just my  :Twocents:
