well my boss's GTX perplexes me...     1969 GTX convertible....       now the confusing part....     the GTX was supposed to be the more luxury oriented trim package correct ???      so my confusion is in the lack of anemeties....     the car is a 440 4-speed.....    manual steering and manual drum brakes.....          my only idea is someone wanted a 440 in a road runner ?     any other ideas ???

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

For what its worth, I have a 69 Coronet R/T which is 4-speed, manual steering/ manual drum brakes, non Rallye dash with no tach or oil pressure guage. Added to that its F8 Green! I bet the dealer was delighted when that turned up on the Transporter! I like it though! I think the idea was to get them out the door as close as possible to $3,000, and stopping and changing direction was extra....

yeah thats unusual  :yesnod:  i have also seen a b5  69  GTX   j code  HEMI  car with  manual brakes - manual steering & a 4 speed   :shruggy: better off with a roadrunner

I thought the GTX was the hipo model not luxury that is why the smallest power plant available was the 440

he GTX was to get a dedicated hipo model nameplate against the GTO 442 and SS Chevys which since 1964 were selling like hot cakes, Mopar had the drivetrains to beat them, but not the marketing. the Road Runner in 1968  was to undercut the compitition's price points... it worked really well too cause the personal luxury (read Charger) buyer was better healed and the hot roders didnt want the options or the weight. the styling of mopars b-bods was nothing to write home about intill they finally got up to speed in the '66 season with the GTX and Charger.
Alot of products changed placment between '66 and '71.
BTW: a vert is heavier then a hardtop.

While the GTX was more upscale than the road runner, power steering and brakes were options. If the car wasn't built as a dealer float, or someone ordered it that way. Either was a pretty plain Jane GTX was easily obtained.

I have a 68 Sport Satellite Vert sitting at my B-in-laws now...Great car but it's a 318 ?  Wouldn't you expect the Sport model to have a big block ?  It's gotta be a Plymouth thing...that or I just wish it was a BB.

This ticket is only $69.00 ?  If I'd have known that I'd have been going FASTER !

Mean 318

Just about all Sport models came as small block cars, the biggest motor you could get in a Sport Satillite was a 383 2bbl! :eyes:

anyone have production numbers for a 1968 GTX convertible with a 440 4-speed combo ???   I got 1026 for total GTX verts in 68...    any further breakdown available ??

Speedo's got a 68 X vert in the shop for the last loooooooooooooooooooonnng while.   Replacing the rear frame rails and replacing all the metal in the back half due to rust.
440, 4 speed,  manual everything.    Triple black w/ red stripes.   Gonna look good  :yesnod:     It was running around town for a number of years as a red rustbucket but the tag shows black so it's going back stock.
