Yeah I know it!  2 problems.   Right now I dont have the $  and the truck dont have a sleeper! If I brought that truck home right now I would have to sleep in it! HAHA!

I could put a 5th wheel on it  and chain down my traveling teepee pop up camper to the bare frame area and go truck'n with it!  Think it will go coast to coast in its old age?  HAHA!

Here's one that was at the Garlits show in Florida recently - don't know if anyone was there and saw it not.  I wasn't there, but the owner of the truck recently sent me these pictures.

They took a 2-1/2 ton truck, cut the frame off right before the spring perches, and put the rear springs, axles & transfer case from a '78 1-ton 4x4 pickup truck on the original frame.  I think the bed is some sort of a late '70s stepside that has obviously been modified to fit the application.  It has the original 2bbl 361cid engine & 4speed transmission - just with the transfer case added for power to the front axle.  Unique, to say the least!

Thats pretty cool Geno!  Was the frame a army truck setup or did they use the old C frame?

Does the truck still run? I am surprised to see a firetruck that rusted out back in the compartments? It must have got retired and put outside for a long time.  Lots of guys buy firetrucks and then scrap the fire stuff and use the truck as they are usually in great shape and dont have any miles on the truck itself for being such an old age.

it used to run now theres a problem with the ignition.  the truck sat out in a field awhile after it was retired then the guy we bought it from got it. ya there are some rust issues but it is on all the added on parts but hey it was only $800 i'm not going to complain about it

Todd, they used the original C frame.  I haven't seen pictures of the whole frame (or any "before" shots), but the owner told me that it used to be a 181" wheelbase... ain't that long now, that's for sure!

Oh - and I made a mistake in my earlier description.  They re-used the original springs and spring perches front and rear.  No lift kit, just the regular medium-duty truck suspension.  The axles and transfer case were scavenged from the '78 1-ton 4x4, as I had mentioned.  Sorry for the confusion.

TruckDriver

I took these pictures today, but I saw these last Saturday for the first time when coming from Fond du Lac, Wi., headed south on 151 in the town of Waupun (north side of town). You can see some of these right of the highway on the west side by the old town hall. I was in Fond Du Lac to pick up a '71 trunk lid with the spoiler cut outs for my Charger, and then went to see my girlfriend (who lives in Waupun). This was my first trip on the new 4 lane 151 since they re-did it and moved part of it. And even though I used to live in Waupun in the early '90s, I never knew about these. So, since my girlfrind lives in town, I took my camera today and took these.

There is a LOT of old stuff there. A lot of Combines, school buses, a front end loader, some cars and pickups too, on top of what I got in the pictures. It is just all parked there like it is a private junk yard for a old farmer (which I believe is the case). It is not fenced in, there were no signs saying no trespassing, (so I didn't break any laws by being there). In fact, I drove right up there with my Dakota which is in the background of a couple of pictures (like the first one). It was very cold, snow showery with wind chills in the single digits. You can click on the pictures to make them bigger :yesnod:

Loadstar with what looks to be a Kenworth bumper. The second picture is what is in the back of it.

I might have to go back, and find out who owns the property. I fell in love with this old International 220. It is fairly solid, mostly complete. Although, the drivers side window is either broke out or in the bottom of the door. You can see this one too when your on the highway going by. This is the truck that made me wanna go take these pictures.

Old Dodge

A very old Ford

Another Loadstar. This one is very easy to see from HWY 151 which is just to the right a bit more across the frontage road.

A old Walter Snow Fighter. The actual name on the front. I first thought it was a Oshkosh. Note the peeled off roof of the school bus in front of it.

Old Chevy 60

Just a few of the old trailers there. The red/white ones are old Sun Praire, Wi. Driving school trailers. There is a old Schneider trailer there too in red primer with the decals coming through to reveal the name.

still pretty cool....i don't like GM products, but i'll admit them caddy motors have some balls....
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

Went up to the Dole plantation and they had these sitting around.

LoneStar Mopar

Wow! Those fruit trucks look to be a part of a tour. If so you think they could at least make them look halfway decent, with a cheap paint job or at least a wash.

bear

Yes they were part of a tour but you kind of have to look for the walkway to get to them. And part of the problem out here is the environment is extremely harsh on vehicle they had the big harvesting machines out there and they said they were still in use in the 80's and 1/4 inch steel was rusted completely through there was even some 1 inch thick cables that were rusted trough as well.

LoneStar Mopar

Bear,  I guess you are right. All that heat, humidity, and possible sea air isnt good for anything automotive. I should know I lived in Galveston Island, Texas for 5 years and it wreaked havoc on my old chevy truck.  Also many of the old abandoned ships and equipment down there looked kinda like those fruit trucks. Of course they werent on any tours.  :D
