I ran the MP 509 for just a short time. I already had a 2800 stall converter because as you probably
know mopar says not to run this cam in an auto car. I have 12.5 to 1 comp and I could get it to run like
a rapped ape. But this is about the worst cam I have ever tried or seen for street driving, I got at most
8 pounds of vacuum, its to much for the street, and I don't know anybody that likes it as a strip cam, most
that have tried it moved on  :rotz: :rotz:

the new grind will idle better , still one of my least favorite cams to use though

I bought it and ran it 15yrs ago, so yes old style.  SOLD it on ebay with only about 7hrs of run time.

My experience too.  Makes the car almost undriveable on the street.  Drop back down to a .484" or so and it transforms the engine completely.

alright -  thanks for the advise guys - but still noone has ran the newer revised one yet ?

It would be interesting to hear some first hand experience but I would guess it is probably not a real big selling cam.

My old 509 on a 108CL idled at 1200rpm and still had a noticeable lope so I doubt it will clean up to the point it idles "good" even on a 114CL. Most would opt for the 284/484 "street" cam IMO or go with a new aftermarket grind.

The truth is if you take away the lope of the 509 cam I can't think of another good reason to use it unless you are trying to blead off some cylinder pressure in a high compression engine.

Yeah...I scrapped the one I was running too....not enough vacuum   I have the Engle K54!!!

Rolling_Thunder

hmmmmm       so much for a smooth-ish idling cam...          went through the Isky catalogue and didnt find anything that appealing...      going to Engle next...

i know some of you arent very fond of comp cams BUT im running a similar grind its a 292  with a .501 lift comp magnum cam     runs great  its in a 440      never had trouble with idling      i ran  with the timing gears set at  zero for a while then   tore it down and put them on the advance mark  alot better bottom end and seems to run alittle smoother on the advance mark  also    idles around 700 rpm
