There was a '70 GL floating around here on one of the threads with and orange painted bumper. I did not like it all (sorry Mr. '70 GL owner, whoever you may be).

I agree to a point. I think the cars made in the '50s have way too much but the 2nd gen Chargers are pretty subtle with the amount of chrome and stainless. IMO the amount of shiney silver on a '68 and '69 works well.

seemed to me the '70s should'a came that way...
but the rear bumper painted body color like that plum crazy daytona clone dont work for me...

Chrome needs to make a comeback on modern cars.  And not just the BMWs and such.  I'd like to see a modern muscle car with chrome.  But for now, I'll settle for modern muscle car.

I would like to color key the bumpers on my 3rd gen.  Does anyone know how you go about prepping prior to paint?

Dupont actually makes a primer specifically for Painting chrome. It is an etch primer and is kind of a yellow/tan/green looking stuff. It works though, I know a guy who used it on two chevy wreckers and he puts a good 150k  a year on his trucks, my uncle used it on a RoadRunner and I know a guy who has used it on several cars including a plum crazy 71 Dart.

The stuff works. My 73 s/e is getting painted bumpers. I have a 72 Hideaway front adn 72 Rally/R/T taillights and 71-72 Bumper brackets for front and rear.
I am painting my car the 2006 version of GoMango orange.

Yes.  Engine planned for it had problems, so it is at the machine shop.  Parts on order from Summit.

The painted bumper will get replaced with a newly chrome plated one.

Have a restored grille waiting to go in it, and the front turn signal lamps for the valance.  Still needs the floor replaced, and some underside rocker work.  Sure is purty though:

very nice Charger and as for ken I talked to him a few weeks back and he is out of mopars for a bit, he said it's been over a year since he even opened the door on the roadrunner and it is sitting outside uncovered with the garage empty except a big train track set up

Especially since they are only for one year 2nd gen Chargers. Rallye's on a 68/69 just don't blend. It's the second greatest Chrysler wheel behind the '68 chrome magnums. Worse thing they did was discontinue them.

68's & 69's look better with painted bumpers than 70's do...however, I think a couple colors could possibly be doable, I just haven't seen them yet. I do think 3rd gen's with hideaways look pretty damned good, though.

If you want a temporary fix you could always scrub the rust off with some tin foil. The rust will come back but it'll buy you some time until you can afford new bumpers.

Thanks Bull.  I'll try that first, we'll see how they come out before I do anything like painting them.
