Slowly but surely, this Charger is turning green. The green goo has now oozed it's way into the trunk compartment. I thought for sure I would not have the time this week, however luck was by my side so I seized the opportunity.
I replaced the trunk floor, sectioning it in along the curve in the front BEFORE it hit the shock brace. I didn't need to go all the way up over the axle, & it would have been more work than necessary. I used a flange tool to create a step, & filled the seam afterwards. The trunk floor was installed by using a combination of bonding adhesive & welding. I had to repair the spare tire bracket with a patch as that was rusted, too. I also replaced the RT trunk floor extension.
Here it is, after the final coat of paint. Some areas are still masked off. Sorry about some of the shadows in the pics.
I gave this 1 coat of PPG's DP primer mixed as a sealer & let it dry. I then gave it 4 coats of this Omni Sublime green, mixed in the high solids ratio of 4:1:1/2. Some areas got a little more than 4 coats, & it was STILL hard to cover. On flat areas it looks perfect, however at any raised ridge it looks a little thin. I'm probably being nit-picky, but so what? One large trunk mat, a big plastic tail panel cover, a spare tire, & a jack later it will look awesome. Much better than that rusted gaping hole that was there before!  :icon_smile_tongue: :icon_smile_tongue:

I'll post more pics as progress continues...

Beautiful again! :D I assume your did the trunk, underneath, and all of the places that aren't seen much using Acrylic Enamel and your using Base/Clear for the outside?

bill440rt

Thanks, guys!

Yes, I used that same single stage again. From here on out, the majority of the paint work will be done in PPG's highline base/clear. My wallet is groaning already.  :icon_smile_sad:   I may use this single stage on small items, nuts, bolts, clips, etc. that have to be body color, but also aren't seen much.

Actually, this Omni single stage I've been using is not an acrylic enamel, but a URETHANE based paint. Very shiny & durable. Although it is a lower line of PPG, it is still much more durable than a regular acrylic enamel.

Thanks all for the kind words!
However, I don't foresee this being done anytime soon, DEFINITELY not next year for Carlisle!  :icon_smile_dissapprove:

I'll probably tackle the insides of the doors next, they're going white 'cause the car is getting a white interior. I'd rather do them now instead of making a big mess later trying to work around a completely painted car.

And Just 6T9, DON'T FORGET about helping me lay out those hood stripes!! BTW, I got the "440" callouts the other day. They look good!
