Hi,

My friend has a 68 Valiant he is swapping a 360 into. The engine/tranny combo was removed from a 74 D 100 pickup. He was wondering if there will be a difference in the tranny tailshaft lengths between car and truck 727's, and if he will be able to use his original transmission crossmember. The car was originally a slant 6. Thanks in advance for any help.

The bugle sounds the charge begins. But on this battlefield no one wins.

no difference in lengths between 727's, but there will be a difference between a 727 and 904.  4"-4 1/8" to be exact.

Yes, he will be able to use his original crossmember.  The transmission mount position is no different between 904 and 727 automatic transmissions.

Actually, some of the pickups do come with a 727 that has a shortened tailstock.  How long is the tailstock on the one he has?  If the overall length is just over 34 inches, you should be okay.

The donor truck was a long bed but thanks for the info Ghoste, I will pass it along to him.

BTW, I mean 34 from end of bellhousing to end of taillshaft not including a yoke.
