vin tracking to current owner?

does anyone know if it's possible to track a vin number to find out who's the current owner of a vehicle and if so can you help me?

It depends where you are.  In Ontario (Canada), for instance, if you buy a used vehicle, you have to purchase a used vehicle package which will show the owners through the cars history and tell you if there are any known liens on the car.  It's basically a money grab for the government but it will have the current owner on there.  Some states will also let you track a vehicle through the DMV's I believe but take it from me, some things are better left in the past.

I live in florida and the car is located in Jacksonville about 400 miles from me. the car is a 1970 coronet R/T 440 4speed for sale online and I need to do a check on the cars currnet owner to see if it's legit. The guy gave me his name and the cars vin number, but he says he's gonna be in new york for 2 months doing construction work. The vin number is  WS23U0A136393 and i all i need is to see what name comes up for the current owner.

I think all you have to do is go to the dmv and pay 5 dollars in Fla and fill a small form and they will tell you who matches the vin #. Stephen
