Looks like he's getting good at the paint and body work. I would look at the car in person if you are picky about paint and body.

No, I took the summer off. I'm pretty sure I'm going with the magnums but that's not set in stone. I like the stance of the Ebay car I linked, how it sits up a little higher in the back. According to the description he used air shocks for that. The only thing I don't understand about that car is the price. I know what goes into body work and it seems like it's too cheap for what's been done. I know there's a lot left to do but just the paint and body alone should have cost $15k or more with labor and parts.

As far as mine, I have done some work oin the engine bay fixing the pinholes left by the battery and the rotten tray that I junked. Almost done with that. I'm hoping to get the engine bay and door jams painted with single stage enamel (black of course) and then hopefully get the interior and engine/trans put back in during the winter. After that I'll get the exterior painted if I have the money by then. Donations?

I agree and would advise seeing the car in person before buying. I saw Mike's car and though it is nice, I know he spent additional money to have items redone that had poor body work or excessive filler that was shrinking. Much of the components on the firewall were blown over in paint as well.

Yea, it's got lots of problems. I was just struck by the look of it even though the pictures were lousy. He must have gotten by pretty cheap on parts and labor if he's able to make money on a $28k price tag. I'm surprised no one used the BIN yet because I bet the bidding gets pretty close to that, even with only 22 hrs yet to go.

THAT'S MY CAR! I can't believe you guys are talking about it. I did pay Danny $20,050 for it. The paint is a 6 out of 10. It's not even buffed and has tons of orange peel. I thinkg that some 2000grit wet sand and buff would do the trick. I want a daily driver, not a show car so I can live with that. The electrical is also a big mess. Most of the dash doesn't work and the battry cables just got fried this weekend. From 20' the car looks super bad ass but up close you can see the prblems. But then again, I only paid $20k for it and not 25-30. The interioir is good except for a few cracks on the dash cap.
The body work is mediocre and still has little holes next to the trunk seal so watter does get in... Engine mounts are pretty bad and the carb needs to be tunned up.
I decided to replaced all hoses and belts, the fan and the fan cluch, spark plugs, wires, dist. cap & rotor.
Other than those minor things I need to have the brakes checked and it does have some play on the steering.
I have to say I had a little buyers remorse for a few days but when I press that gas peddal it all goes away.
Do you guys thing I paid a fair price??? I think I did.

First off, congrats on buying the car! Oh & welcome to the site too.
I'd say in today's market, you could have done a lot worse for 20K. It looks like you've bought yourself a good looking car to tinker with as you go.

The electrical is also a big mess. Most of the dash doesn't work and the battry cables just got fried this weekend.

If I were you, I'd seriously consider buying a new wiring harness. The wiring in these old cars isn't as good as it was 35+ years ago, as some folks have found out the hard way. Here's a recent example;  http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,19511.0.html
You don't want that thing burning on you.

With the paint, maybe get a quote from a detail shop & see if they can buff it for you...after you work out the electrical thing first.

Congrats on the car purchase. Sounds like you think the guy could have done better work on the body but as long as all the rust got dealt with I don't think that's a bad price. There are many times I wish I had gone the route you did when buying a Charger.

Hey Downeyman, i just built about the same exact car except mine is Red, and i spent 16k and 2 years doing all the work myself except for the paint (maaco) so i would say you got a good deal at 20k.  Get a new wire harness or pull the original one out and replace it your self one wire at a time.  I replaced my wire harness with a generic (chevy) one from www.itsasnap.com but it was a pain in the ass.  So go with a harness already made up for mopars.

The main issue with the wires was the negative cable on the battery. As far as the possitive cable, maybe you guys can clear this out for me. As per the shop manual, there are supposed to be two cables from the possitive terminal: one to the starter and one to the relay. Mine has ONE cable from the battery to the relay and on the same screw on the relay, another one goes to the starter. It works but I'd hate to damage something or cause unnecesary stress on the battery and starter. How do you have it?

Also, the engine wire harness is not THAT bad but for a couple of hundred dollars it might be the best insurrance I'll ever get...
