69 OUR/TEA

       Hi all,
There have been alot of threads on color combinations,so here goes one more......
After numerous conversations about this, friend member RT/SE prefers the look of no vinyl top,and is very much leaning to not putting it back on after removing for resto.I personally love the vinyl tops on 68-70 Chargers,as the only color Charger I like without the vinyl would be red w/black stripe. His car, which is my favorite color combo,is like stated , a triple black 69 R/T SE , 4spd ,dana, power window, pdb, stripe delete car, that still resides on about 80% original paint and is a absolute original panel, zero rust car.I've told him many a time that he was crazy to take it off, amongst the fact that now you can't say you have a triple black charger,(it just sounds awesome saying it),and because it is a real  R/T SE , should 'nt be changed. Now I know it is his car,and could do with it whatever he wants, and after another conversation again on this, said I was going to put up a post on this to see what you all think!!!And he can watch and see the general concensus.I was not a real big fan of my color which is B5 blue ,white top and white stripe, but because it is a real R/T,and does actually look pretty good with the contrast between the white and blue, thought I'd better leave it alone.I was going to change to either triple black or T5 copper white top and white stripe. After seeing some threads on possible color combos, was suprised on the taking to of the B5 blue color combos.Looking forward to your inputs.

THE CHARGER PUNK

go with the triple black , there were only a few made that were r/t se's with the stripe delete, i know of one that is all original, a member here has owned 2 one of which he still owns, so i say stay triple black wit the vinyl as without it makes the charger look 2 big,and as itself that combo is menacing as HELL :flame: :METAL: :punkrocka:-MATT

Zentelis

Personally I've never cared for vinyl tops. But with such a rare combo, I'd keep the top on.

The vinyl accentuates the car.  Leave it.

PS--- get him to register!   His will be the first 4 speed 3x black in the registry!

I have 4 automatic cars in the registry...one coded for a red stripe :drool5:

Hey Paul... that's hitting pretty close to home.    The important thing is that it's his choice.

Hey, for what it's worth,  vinyl tops were a phase cars went thru.  I have no idea why they were so popular but they were.    I had my holes welded up and haven't regretted it since on my car... but mine is not an original triple black 4 speed stripe delete RT/SE.

Pretty valuable combo car there...  but I'm not in it for the money either - I just like what I like and then I go for a ride  :drive:

terrible one

Although I'm a bigger fan of the smooth tops, I say that you should definitely keep the vinyl top with that car.

Oh yeah, you gotta keep the vinyl.  Chargers were made for it.

I never thought I would hear a 1st gen owner say that. I thought you guys all loved the hardtops? Maybe it's just the rarity of the vinyl or something that makes most assume they were all hardtops? :shruggy:

One of the few cars that has made me stop and do a double take at a show over the years was a 1st Gen Charger with white vinyl top at the 2003 El Dorado Charger Fever All Charger Meet:

Keep the triple black R/T triple black, I too vote to keep the black vinyl top.

Actually, I've always been more of a 2nd gen guy.  It was partly the vinyl that drew me to this car.

RT/SE

Gentlemen, Amigos, Comrades, Messieurs and all other creatures large and small,

I think it is time for me to step in and give my view since this post is about me!!!!  First off, thanks to everyone for providing your opinion. I've enjoyed reading this thread put up by my buddy 69 our/tea. He is a very talented body man and many of you have seen the pictures of his Charger.  He will be doing the paint and bodywork on my Charger.  We will start posting pictures once the resto begins.  I never realized how passionate people were about vinyl.  Anyway, I am currently leaning towards removing the vinyl on my car.  Why you ask. Okay, first - if I could go back into time and walk into a dealership in 1969 and order a Charger, I would have never ordered one with a vinyl.  I would have ordered a 4 speed black charger without a vinyl.  Second, I really don't view removing a vinyl as a big deal.  It just involves welding up some holes.  The vinyl can easily be added back down the road by just drilling some holes which I may do if it comes off.  Here's my problem, if I put the vinyl on right away - my dream of having a double black 4 speed Charger will never disappear. Third, I'm paying for restoration so I wan't to be happy in the end.  Fourth, I missed out on a double black 4 speed Hemi Charger years ago and it still burns me to this day.  Fifth, even if the vinyl comes off - the car is still originally a triple black 4 speed RT/SE.   I may at some in the future want to bring the car back to its as delivered condition.

A picture of the car is attached. Anyway, would love to hear more of your thoughts. .......RT/SE (the artist formally know as TripleX9)

We just had our '68 done as triple black, and we think the vinyl top surrounded by chrome, really sets off the car.   The red line tires compliment it, as well....Brian

i don't care what you finally decide on, that my friend is a very cool car either way! i personally don't like vinyl tops but i think you should do the car the way you want the car. if its not for sale who really gives a shit what anybody but you thinks anyway :yesnod:.
