I just saw it tonight and WOW what a good movie. Not only was the movie excellent, but it's full of early 60's cars, salt flat race cars, and other period correct gearhead things like the vintage Chrondek timers, logo clothing, etc.

Definitely a must see movie. :yesnod:

bull

I've been looking forward to seeing it, and I imagine the way my schedule is I'll have to keep looking forward to seeing it on video. :'(

Looks like a good movie. I do want to see it. I like any movie that Anthony Hopkins is in. He's tough guy, but he does not seem like it, not until you pissed him off or he does something outrageous. What is it rated at? PG, PG13 or R?

I've been looking forward to it, hopefully I'll see it this week.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

What a strange link? First, the movie is called World Fastest INDIAN not worlds fastest motorcycle. Then the reporter states that the speed record people are upset over the inaccuracy, however the official SCTA web site has photos and praise for the making of the movie, and a glance at their (SCTA) official speed records clearly shows that Burt Munro's 1967 record still stands today, which sort of makes the reporters statement that "Munro never set any record" not just wrong, but makes one wonder if anything they print has any accuracy at all, since a 30 second web search would have provided them indisputable information. ... Very strange.

The following is a pasted list of all his (Munro's) records. The 1967 one still stands.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Munro set the following records in New Zealand:
*January 27, 1940: Flying Half-mile Road , Unlimited Class, 99.45 mph, Munro Indian Special.
*January 27, 1948: Flying Half-mile Road , Open Class, 120.8 mph, Munro Indian Special.
*April 13, 1957: Flying Half-mile Road , 750cc Class, 143.6 mph, Munro Indian Special.
*February 9, 1957: Flying Half-mile Beach , Open Calss, 131.38 mph, Munro Indian Special.
*December 16, 1961: Flying Half-mile Beach , 750cc Class, 129.978 mph, Velocette.
*March 25, 1962: Standing Quarter-mile Open Class, 12.31 seconds, Velocette.
*May 1, 1971: Flying Half-mile Beach , 750cc Class, 132.35 mph, Velocette.

Munro set the following records in the United States :
*August 20, 1962: Flying One Mile, Class S/A 883cc, 178.971 mph, Munro Indian Special.
*August 22, 1966: Flying One Mile, Class S/A 1000cc, 168.066 mph, Munro Indian Special.
*August 26, 1967: Flying One Mile, Class S/A 1000cc, 183.586 mph, Munro Indian Special.

None of this has any relevance on what a tremendous movie it is. I'm certain it will get (and win) several Oscar nominations. Unfortunately, I discovered that it is only showing in 114 theaters nationwide! No wonder this country is disintegrating. It seems as though there isn't room for wider distribution (God forbid displacing some typical crap movie for one that is family friendly, emotionally griping, and amazingly uplifting). Unfortunate, but welcome to America!

On a "gearhead" note, because I found the movie so compelling, I did some internet research on Burt Monroe and discovered that the "real thing", from a gearhead standpoint, is so utterly amazing that it is unbelievable! I'll provide a link at the end of this, but just for a few examples --- He cast his own pistons, built his own cylinders out of used cast iron gas pipe, cast his own cooling fins for the cylinders, carved his own connecting rods from junk yard car axles, hand made all his gears and sprockets, hand hammered his streamline cowling --- WAIT IT GETS BETTER! --- when the stock flathead engine became uncompetitive in the era of overhead valves, he cast his own OHV cylinder heads/magnesium lifters, hand filed his own camshafts, and turned his motor into an OHV engine! All this while retaining the stock factory engine castings (even though it was blown up perhaps a hundred times over a fifty year period, with case shattering results). Keep in mind that this was a 1920 Indian ! All these improvements were done with a micrometer made from a motorcycle spoke!  ---  His daily life makes MacGyver look like a flaming sissy!  ....... http://www.indianmotorbikes.com/features/munro/index.htm  ---- make sure you read part two also.

From a purely entertainment standpoint with the "gearhead" factor aside, I can't stress enough how good this movie is for kids and adults alike. If you're lucky enough to have it showing near you, you must go see it!

Holy crap, Man! That guy crashed A LOT! I can't believe how many head wounds he got...and lived to tell about it!
That's a pretty amazing life story. Talk about mental stamina & sheer determination!
