A guy came by the shop today and said that he had a complete 440 with a 727 tranny, complete with air cleaner for sale. $450.00 cash.  If I remember correctly, mopar never put an HP block in an Imperial. Would this be a good price for this setup? The tranny in my 69 runner is starting to slip and this might be a decent tranny. What do you think?

Buy the C body, too, if possible.  Imperials are classy cars.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

This guy has had this motor and trans in his garage for years. I'm sure that the Imperial body has been crushed long ago.

 Chryslers did have a HP 440, it was called a T.N.T 440, 350 HP.

Sure many of you know this but all Big Block where the same from year to year, excpet 1967, 440 HP came with the close chamber heads.
A  68 2 barrel 383 has the same crank, same block and same 906 heads as a 383 HP.
A 68 440 from a wagon uses the same crank, same block and the same 906's as a 440 HP.

Cam, piston's and other part's where driffrent but for a rebuild the HP does not make it better. Ma Mopar built there stuff pretty darn tuff, un like Chevy that had to make a 4 bolt belly button main block.

My Blowen 440 is based on a 1974 C-body engine with a steel 69 crank.

cudaken is right. The 300's also had 440HP's called the TNT. I thought they were 375 horse though.
I have one in my gararge right now. Regardless any steel crank 440 is worth grabbing for that money.

i think roll mike has a steel crank 440 in the for sale section for $400.  He is in Stlouis area and a good guy to deal with.

I'd snag it too.
In the mid 90's I drug a 72 Imperial out of the mud, leaves & weeds. I had the heads from that engine in a storage shed on a pallet...until the shed got flooded & ruined my heads. :flame:
I still have the rest of the engine though, so I guess I'm just stuck with buying some E-heads now. :icon_smile_big:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

if its not siezed id buy it, though you can pick up 727's very cheap depending on the condition

Unlike many other Chrysler models, the Imperial never got the HP 440 only the 350 hp standard performance version.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I have the same situation, a buddy that owns a junk yard just took in a 77 D300 with a 440. Said he'd sell it with the 727 to me for $400 . I went down to check it out, cranked over pretty good but didn't fire so tried some ether.. BANG..... left side valve cover blew off!! I never saw that happen.  :icon_smile_shock:
