i agree! i also miss the good old days, and have grown accustomed to many of todays moder conveniences. but i would gladly trade them for a buck a gallon for 99 octaneleaded  regular,5 bucks for a case of lucky lager, and no shortage of young honeys with no vanerial disease. and a quarter of the traffic on he streets. :yesnod:

I'll go with that and add - when muscle cars were owned by guys who knew how to work on one.The cars were cheap to buy used and parts were too.And when nobody but Mopar guys owned Mopars.

I just long for the days of these muscle cars being owned by the people who love them, not just by those who have money. I remember when my dad used to pick up plenty of big block cars for cheap just because nobody wanted those big old cars with big blocks.

daytonalo

Well cheap cars are gone forever , although I hope to see a second go around with muscle cars with the big three ! From what I read It just might save Detroit ! By the way are they taking orders for the new challenger ?

Ive got a few years on silver, he may have ben old nuff fer a mini bike around that time? im sure he had graduated from big wheel to a banana seat 2 wheeler at least

Orange_Crush

Yup...the good ol' days.

Back when pneumonia and the flu could (and often did) kill you.  When polio scares shut down schools, gyms, swimming pools, and other public places all over the country.  When  "duck and cover" meant you had to dive under your desk and await impending nuclear annihilation and nuclear was a threat as real as some crazy Muslim blowing himself up in a public place.  When being black meant you were not even good enough to be a second-class citizen (that spot was reserved for women).  When your teenaged daughter got raped, it was because she was dressed provocatively and "boys will be boys."  When a man could beat his wife and kids to bloody pulps and others would look away because "that was his right."  When you actually had to carry a spare distributor cap, rotor, condenser, fuel filter, and points in your car because you could almost be guaranteed that one of those would give out on a long trip (if, that is, the car didn't vapor lock).  When any type of surgical procedure left you with a scar at least 7 inches long that took months to heal.  When a broken hip or any tumor was practically a death sentence.  When the mentally handicapped would get locked in institutions...sometimes without parents' consent.  When one of your co-workers could go to your boss and tell him you were a homosexual (or worse) a communist and basically end your career.  When interracial marriage would get you arrested...or, if you were a black man with a white girl...LYNCHED!

Yep...sure do miss those good old days.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

And I'm sure we could all pick out what is wrong in today's society. To name just a few : The threat o Terriorists with above mentioned Nukes,

How is one crazy arab with one dirty bomb any more scary than the one of the most powerful nations on earth (which is our enemy) aiming its entire nuclear arsenal at us?  We are all pretty sure that our nation would survive a terrorist attack, but even as recently as 1981, we all knew that, at the push of a button, life on earth could be anninilated.

QuoteHIV,AIDS,Avian Flu

Medical advances have allowed us to bring HIV/AIDS under control, flu is not a new thing.  In the early nineteen hundreds, a massive flu epidemic wiped out approximately 1% of the world's population.  Influenza is, and has always been a danger.  In fact, in 1904, influenza was one of the top five causes of death in the US (along with Diahrrea).  Because of the advances in medical science, we are working on a vaccine (another advancement of medical science) to prevent bird flu.  WHile we're at it, lets talk about polio, smallpox, bubonic plague, cholera tuberculosis, etc.  WHen's the last time you met someone who had tuberculosis?

QuoteHijackers,Car Bombings

Been happening for many years.  Car bombings have been around as long there have been cars.  They were one of the favorite weapons of Marxist groups trying to take control of governments in third world countries as far back as the fifties...the same is true for hijackings.

QuoteReligious Wars,African tribes trying to commit genocide ( That is Black vs. Black btw)

Been going on for all of recorded history.  Slave traders used African tribes to collect slaves from rival tribes.  Religious wars?  Think back to the crusades.

QuoteAmerica attacked Overseas

Again, been going on for A LOT longer than you or I care to imagine.  America is NOT viewed as a shining beacon of freedom by most of the world...in fact...they hate us.

Quoteand at home

Yes, this is new...but it was only a matter of time...besides, I sure as hell wouldn't trade off all the great advances of the last three or four decades for it

Quotethe right to privacy being taken away

That's been eroded over the past several years with the final blow being the patriot act (though the courts at least had some balls)

Quotetaking a long trip and hoping your head gasket doesn't blow or head crack

You're joking right?

Quotetaking a gun with you on a long trip in case you break down in a bad neighborhood

Thank the media for your paranoia...there is now a smaller chance of you becoming a victim of violent crame then there was 5, 10, 15, 20...even 30 years ago.

Quotehaving to go back to work too early after surgery because of the ever rising medical costs

What is your solution?  Technology has a price.  Medical help costs more because it costs a lot to give you medical care.  Never mind the malpractice insurance that costs hundreds of thousands of dollars a year brought on by a sue-happy populace.  What would be your solution?  Socialized medicine?

Quotethe mentally disturbed that kills or molests a group of innocent people because we are afraid to lock someone up who needs it

So your solution would be to lock them up so they don't do anything bad?  Hell, lets put EVERYONE in jail as a preventative measure.  Mentally hadicapped and or mentally ill people can be viable, contributing members of society.

Quotethe coworker who goes to the boss and tells him/her that you smoke and ruins your career

Please give me ONE concrete example of that happening...and I'm not talking about "my brother's friends sister's cousin's husband" either.  In any case, smoking decreases productivity (due to the stupid amount of "smoke breaks) and increases health care costs to all company employees.  If one of my employees smoked, I'd say "quit smoking or look for another employer."

Quotethe insane rate of divorce because 2 adults both want everything their way

As opposed to the happy home created when one adult demands his way and the other is not allowe an opinion about it?

Quotecan't let your child to walk home from school or play in the yard

Yes you can.  I see it all the time, once again, you've fallen victim to the media and all the Amber Alerts that take place (don't get me wrong, Amber Alerts are a good thing).  Pedophiles, kidnappers, freaks, and general weirdos have always been around.  You just hear about it a lot more now.  My dad told me a story about the janitor at his elementary school who fondled the little boys all the time.  When a couple of boys told their teachers, they got in trouble for lying and got kicked out.

Quotecan't correct your child without someone screaming abuse

"Correct" or "Beat the shit out of?"  I see you pop your kid on the ass for misbehaving, I don't have a problem with it.  I see you punch your kid and I'm gonna take a baseball bat to you.

Quotedrive by shootings

Going on since the twenties...its just the color of the people doing it that has changed.

QuoteCrack, Crysal Meth,X,Steroids

Opium, Heroin, Cocaine, acid, morphine, hash....the names are the only things that change

QuoteOh, and lots of people are still racist. And not just the whites either.Just nobody says it out loud anymore, it's whispered now.Ever hear how African Americans talk about a Black woman and a white man together?African Americans are just as racist as whites, don't fool yourself.

Not fooling myself at all...racism will go on as long as there are races....but in the "good ol' days,"  racism was not only government sanctioned...it was the law.

QuoteThe list just goes onand on and on.Too much greed and the idea that everyone has that they are right and if you don't think the same as them you are wrong.I'll take the good old days anytime.

Greed is not a new thing, corporate greed is not a new thing, self-righteousness is not a new thing.  And being overly nostalgic about "good ol' days" that were not that good is DEFINITELY not new...it just means that you're getting old.

Banned?  Nope.  If you want to kill yourself, its your funeral...not mine.  If, however, you're killing yourself on my dime by taking a smoke break every 20 minutes or so or by causing the rest of my employees and myself to pay ridiculously high premiums because your choice will cost stupid money in the long run, then it becomes MY problem and I will urge you to seek other employment.

Then you should urge your employees that drink to seek other employment( and maybe yourself too)  because of the aforementioned, days missed from work, drain on the economy, etc, etc.I guess your employees shouldn't be allowed to have breaks to use the restroom either because of the valuable time lost from their work.No lunch break either.Better junk your computers at your business because your employees probably waste more time playing around on the internet than doing actual work.Bottom line is , you are one of the Anti- Smoking Nazis.

Never had a problem with alcohol at my company, if there was, the offender would be urged to seeks counseling and, if that didn't work, would be fired.  As far as seeking other employment myself, I own the company...RHIP (rank has its priviledges).  I pay my guys well, give them plenty of vacation, they get an hour for lunch in an eight hour day (in other words, they work seven hours a day).  They also get plenty of "family time" (within reason) if they have a sick kid or whatever.  But the 7 hours that they are here, they work their asses off...this means no smoke breaks.  I also proivide them with insurance with full medical and dental PPO (at a cost to me of 700 dollars per employee every month...this is AFTER I make them contribute 200 bucks a month for their health insurance)  If I employed even one smoker, the cost to ALL my employees would be higher.  I already had one guy quit smoking because he had it too good here.  When he had quit for a year, I bought he and his wife dinner at a nice place.  Like I said, I am an excellent employer (is easy to do when you only have 5 employees).

Oh, incidentally, my brother and I are the only ones with internet service here...again...rank has its privledges.

I think a lot of times, we are nostalgic about our youth.  I would love to take a time machine back to the early 1980's and spend a week in my hometown.  But if I couldn't return from that time period and had to live out my life from there on, I would probably realize that things aren't really that different.  Our history has a novelty to us (just watch a 70's movie and pay attention to the traffic), and we often do see it through rose-colored glasses.

Shoot, I remember back when people wouldn't have sex until they were married, then they kept it only within the marriage.  Now, I realize that it's never been that way, and that I'm the only one who sees marriage like that.

What is a yuppie?   :shruggy:
"Metrosexuals" that can usually be seen in minivans or a prius driving around suburbs whining about gas prices, rednecks, and how that awful teacher gave their child, Shaiydon, a failing grade.

Sort-of...

Incidentally Brock, I really was not blaming to blame the media for all of the world's ills.

The media still do provide a valuable service, the problem is that, like all businesses, they have to make money.  Sometimes, in the pursuit of that money, they take part in some bandwagon-jumping that borders on sensatioanlism.

As an example, do you remember when that kid got attacked by a bull shark and got his arm ripped off?  For almost 6 months after that attack, you could not torn on a news show or opena a newspaper without an article where bull sharks were involved in some way, shape, or form.  In fact, it didn't stop until 911.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.
