Saw Aussie Chargers Thursday night

My ship was in Townsville Australia for a few days and while on shore patrol I saw not one but two aussie chargers.  An orange one and a yellow one.  Of course I didnt have my camera on me but they were both nicely restored.  I believe the orange one was an R/T and might have had a hemi in it.  Was hard to see exactly what the logo on the rear quarter read as it was cruising by.

gday, i live in australia, and i love our chargers. im too young to get a car, but i definatly want a muscle car, preferably a mopar. but out of all of them , its probably gunna be either a dodge charger, or an aussie valiant charger. and yes, the aussie chargers did have a hemi, a hemi six pack actualy. and they were only a 265 6 cylinder. the only 6 cylinder, hemi six pack in the world i believe.

Does anyone know if or has anyone ever seen and Australian Charger in the United States?

Please post some pics - because I think it is such a great look for a Charger - and I wish more were rolling around in the US.

that 340 one was posted in a show thread a couple weeks ago, they would be unique at pretty much any place, even a larger mopar show...
  do a search "aussie charger" rarer yet, would be the south american dart based one, maybe natcho could find some for some US collector?..

I know the guy that has the Charger and the Ute on myspace. My Brother-in-law works with him at Newport, IN. My Brother-in-law told me to go look at them during Paul's yard sale at bridge fest.

My Brother-in-Law told me:
*These two cars were basket cases that Paul got off ebay.

*The blue one has had many engine problems and has been known to not start.

*The yellow one has messed up interior with nothing original, racing seats, and sporty interior that ruined any historical value.

*The charger has a badly bent frame because it was a wreck.

*He has many parts where they put the two cars together.

*If you get real close you can see the runs in the cheap paint on the yellow one and you can see dents and rust bubbles on the blue one near the rear end on the side.

* The yellow ones frame is bent so bad he moves it from one place to another on a trailer it is hard to drive.

*Last I knew Paul was still tied up in legal problems over the title on the yellow one. He cannot license the yellow one because there is no legal title for the U.S. 

*I have no idea on the blue ones legal standing.

There is NO WAY I would buy them, to many mechanical problems and legal issues.

I have a bunch of pics and some video around here someplace.  There used to be a bunch out of Georgia if memory serves that collected and restored them.  There were a couple of brothers and they frequently brought some of their Australian cars to the Nats each year.  I think they were known as the Boyer Boys or Bower Boys or something like that?

I have a vh charger xl 245 hemi/5spd and a vh dodge ute 215 hemi 3on the tree. The charger I restored a couple of years ago and the ute is in the body shop but progress on it has been rather slow

I f you guys think restoring american stuff is hard don't attempt an aussie one! I had a few pieces freighted over but I made a second trip back there just for parts !Been burned on ebay.au a couple of times too. However It is worth it at cruise night or at a show!I'm posting from work but I can attach a pic from home later

I could have restored my 71 bee TWICE for the effort and expense of gouint to get and then doing an Aussie charger

Oh well to me it was well worth it, Next on my ODD  charger to get list will a Brazilian R/T

Ignore it, as I recall, the HEMI 6 cylinder Charger were some of the fastest cars in Aussie for a very long time.  As much as I love American Chargers, I certainly wouldn't turn down as Valiant Charger.   Some people are just to close minded.  Good luck finding your R/T

Aussie chargers are fairly common and cheap in the UK (for a musclecar that is), but they didn't hold up too well in our damp climate and many have rust issues
actually we probably have a winner here for the best handling charger thread, I havent driven one but I've heard they handle better than any US a body

I would own one of those   I still like the 2nd and 3rd gen U.S Chargers better, but nothing wrong with the Aussie model

G'day guys,

I've owned heaps of Aussie Mopars over the years, and quite a few Aussie Chargers.

They are quite collectible down here. A true R/T these days goes for over $150,000 Australian and over $200,000 for excellent examples. These aren't pie in the sky prices either - people are paying that much and I'm as bemused as anyone. I think anybody who buys an Aussie R/T (if you live in the States) needs to be VERY sure you're getting exactly what you pay for.

I drove my friends R/T E38 (265 with factory triple webbers ) for a 7 hour trip to a car show a couple of years ago and in all honesty, they are extremely powerful and fast motor cars. Yes, I know there's no compromise for cubic capacity, but these things absolutely scream. I owned one of the few 340 Aussie Chargers that were sold here - went good, but nowhere near the 265.

From my point of view, the Aussie Chargers have a fantastic shape - they look fast. After owning them for a while though, you want to go to the next step, and for me that was a U.S Charger - hence my 71 Bee. I know all you guys love the 2nd Gen cars, but the 3rd Gen ones do it for me. Beautiful sleek shape on them.

Here's a pic of an old 71 Charger I owned - nothing special, 265 Hemi, 4 speed. Looked good, went good.
It was called a 1971 VH Charger 770.

Drdodge340, get over it! its a opinion, and its my opinion if your gonna get upset over everyone who you dont agree with then maybe this isnt the place for you. There are many people with different opinions and i know im not the only one who doesnt like the aussie chargers. Its just as well you dont own a new charger, if you saw the comments from alot of the members here you'd probably have a nervous breakdown. For me, i dont like them because i think they look ugly, i dont like the 6 cylinder bs, and i dont like the fact the name "charger" is used on it. (abit like how many here dont like the fact the new charger is called a charger despite the fact it has four doors) I dont want to get too far off topic here, but to me a mopar muscle car is: american, v8, 2 door and rear wheel drive. personally, id rather have a 69 camaro. i could talk to you for hours about your 71 bee, but your other 2 just dont do it for me. Everyone has a favourite and least favourite my least favourite happens to be the aussie charger. There are other reason's but im not going to go into them here (that's a whole different story) and btw, welcome to the site
