i was thinking if i sell the charger and have enough left over, i could easily fit my 440 in one, maybe that will work-and its still a b body, hopefully i wont have to sell my engines too :icon_smile_angry:

Shakey

They're worth more than they used to be, scrap is up to around $400.00 CAD per ton.

pettyfan43

If ya buy one let me know, I have a parts car! It is a big block car and I am using the pieces to change my 73 Charger over from a 318.

Need a CHEAP changeover? How about a 100 bucks for a WHOLE CAR???? EVERYTHING bolts right in. If you put it on a lift, it's identical to the 73-74 b-Bodies.

TruckDriver

There was a plain California '79 Magnum on Ebay for $200, and no bidders yet :shruggy: If it is a plain jane car, maaaaaybe $1,200 to $1,500.if it runs. The GT's would be more, and T-tops more yet.

Now that being said, I posted this one 2 weeks ago in the "Cars For Sale" section. This car is near me. I think it is a little high priced, but it is a well optioned T-top GT as well.

I remember when that ad came out in car magazines.  I remember feeling depressed about it.

I started really getting into cars in Junior High, and got the muscle car bug after a guy who worked for my dad took me for a ride in a blue and primer 1969 Super Bee 426 Hemi Super Bee.  It was 1975, and the musclecar craze that I was only peripherally aware of when it was here I was now very aware of being over.  I wanted to know more about the Cuda in that ad!  Was it a hemi?  Was that a 6 pack hood? Was it an AAR?

I always thought it was rather insulting the way the ad was worded.  Basically, what happened to the guy that used to be into a hot 'Cuda?  Well, he grew up, and was served up a warmed over B body with a lousy pollution controlled low compression 318.  (so I guess the then-owners of 8 year old Chrysler products were immature jerks, including the golf guy in the ad, but never mind).  Sure you could modify it, but most people that bought that at that time were likely the same people who bought Pontiac Gran Prixs, not people who would like a Cuda.  And notice how they tried to make the tires sound like something special.  Must have been a lousy time to be at Chrysler.

If that is growing up, let me always be a kid.

Get over it.   I'm relatively sure Chrysler made more barracudas / challengers / and chargers with the 318 - 2 barrel motor than any other engine.
The marketplace had changed, the immature guy with the hot cuda had wrapped it around a tree, making insurance high for that 'type" of car.
They were making the best of a bad situation - oil embargo, gas lines [ I remember cars being pushed into gas stations, and being able to gas up on certain days depending on the last # on license plate]

Now you have a new golden age of resto parts and kick ass crate motors to put in your old Mopar, and you have a grown ups bank account to spend , not a kids...

Excuse me?  I am well over it.  I was sharing a feeling I had AT THE TIME, if you had read the piece.

"Mother Mopar won't let you down" was ridiculous, and the spin of the ad was just a bit insulting.  'Settle for the junk we are making now, and grow up!'

If you can't see that as a pretty bad marketing decision, I don't know what to tell you.  The fact that you can pick up Magnums for next to nothing should tell you something.

Just my  :Twocents:
But I've had E bodies, Cudas and Challengers, and the Magnums and Cordobas both.
As far as ride goes, the late B bodies beat the E bodies hands down.
As far as styling, well...if the E bodies had to have 5mph bumpers, they'd likely look a lot worse than the Magnum, or Cordobas. And believe me...I love the 1970-71 E bodies!!
Power? Well obviously, the E bodies were at the right place at the right time.
However, the E58 360 4bbl engine is no slouch. Same engine in the Li'l Red Express truck, Super Coupes, Aspen R/Ts and Volare Roadrunners, not to mention a bazillion copcars.
Build quality? All of the E bodies I've had were, quite honestly, pieces of junk. Door hinges falling apart, shitty plastic interiors, unibodies cracking everywhere, crappy door seals, not to mention the rust!!
OY VEY!!
Yet, I still have my 1979 Chrysler 300, with 300,000+ kilometers (200,000 miles), no rust, original belts, hoses, paint, etc.
I tried, but I just couldn't kill that car!
Like comparing apples and oranges I guess.
Overall...I think the Magnum/Cordoba is a better car than any Cuda/Challenger.
Like I say, my  :Twocents:

I have 69 charger and 78 magnum.  You can bet which gets more attention.  But, the magnum was better built and more comfortable to drive.  IMO.

Kevin68N71

I also want to clarify a point here.  I don't mean to cr@p on later B bodies and I know people here have some of these rides.  I certainly don't want to tell other people their cars are junk, and I hope no one was offended.  Re-reading my statements kind of sounded like that.  I for one, even like that Magnum GT and such a car would be a great ride to have and enjoy now.  That said, my irritation in that ad was really at the insinuation of that ad, basically insulting prior Chrysler customers and people interested in those older cars.  I still maintain it was a dumb ad.

Hell, I am the only guy I know how likes a 1975 Road Runner.

A lot of what you guys are saying is one reason I LOVE 73-74 B-bodies. They are GREAT Road cars!

Comfortable, room to stretch out and still look like a muscle car!  PLUS easy to get real engines in them.

Magnums WERE and still are cool cars.  For their day, they were not bad cars at all. Cordobas are a little too "Disco" for me but the Magnum has style!!

I saw a few some years ago, but nothing lately.  The latest RR I have seen was a year or so ago near my old house, a guy kept his at his girlfriend's house and exercised it once in a while, and it was a 1973.

I have not seen the Volare based ones, or the Aspen R/Ts, or the 1975s for some time.

There is always EBAY if you really want one.
