I'm Old...watched the VMA's last night and was horrified

Geez, is this what the term "Rock" has come to? Did anyone catch these flamers last night on MTV? They looked like boy bands with more makeup. I know MTV sucks big time, but is this what they define as talent? I must be getting old, because I don't remember it being this bad. Every supposed rock band looked like complete tools. Even the Village People would be offended. The haircuts were the worst, followed by the Gothic/Cure matching suits. I'm sure Silver had a chubby, but I was mortified at the site of these guys.

Maybe it's just me? Maybe the music actually sounds good and I am out of touch?  :shruggy:

I haven't watched the VMAs since 1989.  I was 19 and I thought they were ridiculous.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

I didnt think MTV played videos anymore for me to watch.  So how do people vote for their favorite video at the VMA's when they arent on TV anymore?  Do you vote for the 1/3 of a video that they play durring TRL?  Is TRL even a show anymore?

Yes you are old, and so are the rest of us..

Now i go to youtube and pull up the videos i want and watch them there..
Alice in Chains... man in the box
Foo Fighters... .everlong
SP.... today

From what I did watch of them,  I thought the last few were bad...  but that was just horrible.      They actually paid Jack Black??  Can they get a refund?   Can I get a rebate for my wasted time?

They do still play videos, but you need to be up at 3am to watch them. I can't stand the channel anymore, but for some reason I was locked in last night. I watch VH-1 Classic, but even they are starting to show movies.

ps- And what's with that assclown John Norris? Is that the worst fake hair job you have seen or what? I think he got it put in about 2 years ago, and it gets worse by the day. Even though the Jackass crew was annoying, they were great when they were calling him a queen when being interviewed by Kurt Loder.

it's really sad whats happen to MTV, and music in general. have you tried to listen to commercial radio lately. it's horrible. thank god for satellite radio. i can never go back to regular radio. Rene

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

nh_mopar_fan

In the last two weeks, I've seen Steve Miller with Eric Johnson and then .38 Special.

Who needs videos?

The crap on MTV, I'm not interested.

I just downloaded the vid to "If I'd been the One" by .38 Special.

Good stuff.

Coming up: Clapton, The Who, Asia.

None of these VMA artists can even fill a large venue. That 's why promoters are crying poor house.

Missed it myself......sounds like that was a good thing! ;)

I missed the show, as we were on vacation. Then again I don't think I would have watched it anyways.

LOL....yes one of the first signs of getting old is criticizing 'today's music' and lamenting the fact it's 'not as good as when I grew up'.

Ah yes...the top 40 on AM through a single speaker...now those were the days.  ::)

I don't watch it anymore as most of the music sounds the same, which is another way of saying I am old.

Criticizing today's music is signs of getting old?  :smilielol:  What if it just sucks? I'm old, so I know. :D

I hated the pop music, all the awards shows, Grammys, & whatever else that was tied to the recording industry patting themselves on the back for selling records. (Now videos) It's from when I was a kid, & not after I got older. Back then, I'd buy a magazine that was music related, & if I was lucky, there would be a 1/2 paragraph buried somewhere in the back about one of my favorite bands, while some pretty face with no talent was on the cover with a 7 page story on what they ate for breakfast & what time they took a dump.

There are some pop acts that are okay & have talent, but it's usually overshadowed by all the BS to promote them. Producers & executives would rather be "safe" with a certain sound, & not let something good, or experimental be released. That's why radio sucks, except for college stations that will play "unpopular" music.

Credibility in awards? Yeah, & Jethro Tull got a Grammy for "Best Heavy Metal Act" one year.  :smilielol:

-and those young whippersnappers today, Lord Tarnation! Back in my day if you had AM through a monophonic radio you were in luxury. And the color TVs only really showed red and green.....and we loved it. ;D

Face it Chris, we are aging. Hendrix and Zepplin are gone. The movement has died. ;D

MTV is very easy to watch....and in a related story, that's why god invented the mute button.
