Coke, but only the kind you can get in Mexico.  Its sweetened with sugar.  The stuff here's sweeted with HFCS (high fructose cors syrup) which is a man-made product that tastes like crap.

you can get it here too. Most latin/mexican markets stores carry imported soda. Even the major supermarkets that have an 'ethnic' section have it, though that might be an L.A. thing.

dodge freak

We can't get it here in Michigan. When I came back from Acapulco last March I bought back a bunch of those little 6 oz bottles-they sell for 35 cents a piece down there. Everybody loved it did not have that stinky syrup taste this stuff they sell up here does.

Now if only I could get  with the coco leaves like it was first made !

it says Coca-Cola, actually. Everything else is in spanish tho, and it should have a sticker with all the nutritional information on it. They come in glass bottles, IIRC.

:iagree: We have Mexican import stores all over the place here and once in a while I'll go in and grab a Coke because the Mexican ones still come in the glass bottle.

back when I was a little kid and I used to go down there, you would have to take your empties to the store and 'trade' them in when you bought new ones. If you didn't have empties, you could a) get your soda in a little plastic bag with a straw, or b) pay a "deposit". All my relatives down there had cases of empties stored. I remember this vivdly because they used to send me to the corner store and I would have to carry 9-10 empties in a sack and then bring back the new ones. Those bottles were heavy, even empty, and I was like 6-7 years old.

Growing up in Ecuador, we used to do the same thing.  Sometimes, you'd get a coke and the bottle would be all scratched up and dull because it had been used so many times.  We really SHOULD be doing that here.  A lot of times, we'd go to the corner "tienda" and buy a coke and drink it warm in the store so we could give them the bottle back. ;D memories.

at least in Messco they had fridges, so if you drank it at the store, it would be colder than a pimp's heart.

I swore off all soda down there when i found out that the used bottles were cleaned by blasting pressurized stem (or water?) into them. Wouldn't have much of a problem with that, but I knew people who'd piss in them, or used them as ashtrays. I figure they werent the only ones doing it.
