i installed my box on my 73 charger and replace the orange box with the msd one, but i don't get spark from the coil?  i installed it just like the diagram and the only wire i didn't use was the green wire that was on the negitive side of the coil (it wasn't the problem i tryed it connected).  i have power to my switched 12v wire and i get power when i crank it on the pos side of the coil.

has anyone had this problem or have any tips for me?

any help will be appriciated.

Mefirst

Read this thread and youll find the answer to your problem.... and don´t worry cause the box is a different one from yours, the wiring is still the same...

thanks for the reply but i did all that except removing the ballast resistor and i don't have spark. i have power to everything i checked but no spark. i don't have a clue as to what the problem is.

Call MSD tech tomorrow let them help you out, someting must be wired wrong cause each unit is fully tested for 4 hours before they are shipped out.

i tried bypassing the resistor, i hooked the blue wire to the old brown wire that was the original positive coil wire. i have 12v at the run position and 9.8 when cranking. i still have no spark. i still have 2 brown wires and a green with red stripe wire attached to the other side of the ballast resistor, should i leave these or what?

thanks for the help.

also i didn't use the white wire since the diagram said it wasn't used.

Chryco Psycho

you have to connect Both the run wire usually blue & the start wire usually brown to trigger the realy to turn on the ign box while cranking

I actually wonder if thats just propaganda BS.. I bought a brand new Digital ign. box and it was busted right outtaw the box. Personaly I think they make the boxes, pack them and ship them out as fast as they can. Another thing, al the tech in the manuals are written for Chevy/Fords, and Im not impressed with the MSD "Help Forum" either...

But thats just my :Twocents: ....

Yeah it does seems like that would slow everything down. But I do think MSD is the best out there. As for Ford and Chevy what does it matter ? It needs 12 volts always and 12 volts to turn on and a singel from the dist. Just take a volt meter and find those 12 volt wires.

Yes their tech forums stink, that why I said to call.

i did the test for spark by jumping the distributor connection and got nothing so the tech line said i would need a new box. thanks for the help everyone, hopefully a new one will fix the problem.

Yeah yet another New box LOL
you know it only multi sparks to 3000 rpm ? what is your stall converter at ?

73chargercali

i wanted the multispark but the big reason for getting it was for the rev limiter, my stall is only 1600 approximatly, it is a TCI Sizzler? (not for sure) the car is mostly a street car. when i rebuild i'll get a bigger stall speed.

i will be trying to get another box sent but now i'm not to worried about it since i finally ran in the 13's.

thanks for the help everyone.

Chryco Psycho

so you get to use the multi spark for 1400 RPM approx
