Its like my 383 surges once I hit a higher rpm...it kindof jumps into the power band, but will not let me cruise at a lower rpm on the highway...previously it has been fine but after a good rain and lower temps the engine seems to be either too lean or too rich.  I am thinking the electric choke is the cause and I am thinking of switching back to a mechanical choke.  I had just switched carbs from an edelbrock 600 with a mech choke to a holley 770 street avenger w/ an elec choke.  Any other Ideas for things I should check.  Oh off the highway it is ok and does not have this problem, it only starts at about 60mph plus. ??? I haven't seen anything like this!

Maybe your secondaries aren't opening up all of the way?

We need more info.  What is your engine, ignition, carb, drivetrain setup.  What are the exact symptoms?  Have  you done any work lately?

383 2800 stall 727/torqueflite 3.23 suregrip engine bored 60 over with forged flattop trw pistons 230/236 cam windage tray headers an mopar perf elec ign.  timing was set about 500 miles before this started at about 15.5, and was running fine before. surges 2000-3000rpms and jumps into the power band where the power suddenly comes back on. it mainly happens on the highway.  I am thinking its the shitty holley elec choke. I had one before and hated it, and now its all comin back to me. A manual choke is much easier...especially on an f-ing holley!!!

Well, disconnect the choke and see what happens...

Had some time today and instead of disconnecting the choke I simply adjusted it so it barely stays open...basically after the car starts the choke shuts off.  It was still happening at this point but since I had the day off, I just brought my vacuum gauge and a few tools with me.  I adjusted the carb a little once and it got better... but didn't stop.  I am wondering if the crazy oklahoma weather is just messing with the carb.  Less than a week ago its over 90 and today the low tonight will be 68.  Anyway I am guessing it just needs fine tuned as the weather is fluxuating.

The choke should be all the way open. My holley hp does not even have a choke and runs fine. Well when the motor's first started for the day it idles rough but smooths out with in 5 mins. I live in Mich. and its been in the low 60's for half a day, I drive it in the 30's till the snow comes. You may have to jet up a few sizes. What size jets are in there now ? I would think 70-72 should be it but you need to find out what size the jet's are and go up 2 sizes and see if it helps.
