I am going to Indy for a week. What should I do?

I have to go to Indianapolis for the week on business. I will have the evenings free. Is there anything to do other that sit in the hotel room? I am not much of a drinker so bars and other adult clubs are out. I am thinking more in the lines of car stuff or maybe good eating places. I'm leaving late Sunday afternoon so I need suggestions soon.

I suggest you try and have dinner one night at St. Elmo's Steakhouse in Downtown Indianapolis.   

If you do go, make sure you have a shrimp cocktail and have something ready to drink as the sauce they serve with it will bring tears to your eyes.

Also, The Paddock is about 30 miles outta town.  If there are some items you need for your Charger, you can always pick them up in person and avoid the shipping fees.  There policy at one point was that if they didn't have it in stock when you were there to pick it up, they would ship it for free.

Go over you list of items you need, call them and find out what is out of stock.

Thaks for the info! I will pass on the Go Go bars but I may visit the Paddock. I have one of their catalogs that I picked up at the Nats.'s.

You could always go to the Indianapolis Speedway Museum. It is kinda cool. And then there is the NHRA US Nationals Drag Racing at IRP this week. That is always very cool to see. And if you are a football fan. The Colts play their last preseason game this week at home against the Bengals. Lots of stuff to do in Indy. And St. Elmos is a must, and so is White Castle.

In addition to St. Elmo's (be sure to bring a good amount of money and dress appropriately) there is Delmonico's on the circle which is pretty good (assuming it is still there - I moved from Indy 10 years ago).  Another one of my favorites is the Holly Hock House (family style dining - reservation only).

I agree, Indy speedway museum is a must and so is the paddock.  I am not sure where you are staying - If you are down town there is a nice mall downtown.

I live North of Indianapolis...but I really do not do much down in Indy.  I do go to Paddocks and always find the people there real nice.  There was a pretty cool cruz in up in Kokomo today...so too bad you were not here for that.

I'm here...after a three hour drive...I'm staying at the Hyatt downtown. I checked the paddock's hours and they seem to close fairly early. I don't know if I will be able to get there before they close any time this week. I will try. I'm definitely going to check out some of the local dining establishments. I'm not a football fan so the Colts aren't much of a draw for me. The Indy museum sounds fun. I have to see what my schedule looks like. I will know better tomorrow.

The Childrens Museum is actually cool down there. There is alot of neat things in there for adults. Plan to spend some time. It is quite large. The Hyatt is nice. I have stayed there myself.

I like walking along the canal down there too.  Pretty peaceful.  At least it was when I was there last.

I went to Ruth's Chris steak house a few years ago in Vegas, over priced and just ok food. Just got back from Niagara Falls Canada and went to the Keg steak house much better for the same money. But you are not in Canada so Ruth's might be the best you can do, it might be great, Indy is not Vegas but other people I talk to thought the same thing about other Ruth's places.

My    Telvis - you can go to Ruth's Chris in any city - try the local joint.  They have been in business for 104 years, they must be doing something right!   

As stated, the shrimp cocktail is a tradition and a must!
