Real Value? what are chargers worth these days

Without taking concourse restored vehicles into consideration, and understanding that a cars value is what someone else is willing to pay for it.  How much are cars worth that are semi restored to a point where there is no rust, car is driveable with a majority of the original equipment in place?  I realize that a numbers matching original will be worth more than a non matching motor vehicle, but in order to have an idea of what to insure it for when its ready to put back on the road, I'll need to know what to estimate its value at.  In my case its a 1969 Charger R/T SE, everything on mine is original except the wheels and shortblock which was replaced in the 80s, heads are originals, as is intake, breather, exhaust.  My block came out of another 69 charger r/t.  In my case it is heavily optioned (almost a complete tag filled with options.  By the time it goes back on the road, it will have its first repaint ever (still has factory paint on it now), new vinyl top and seat covers and tires.  I'm aiming for a dependable and reliable vehicle that looks almost as new as it was from the factory, but without the labels/overspray/imperfections that are necessary to win shows.  All my sheetmetal is original and no bondo anywhere except for fixing small dings etc before a repaint.

For others it would be nice to get a breakdown of what perceived valuation on the vehicles are for R/T, RT SE, 500, and base chargers.

I'm sure others are interested as well,  There used to be an old car price guide that listed what a high number 2 or low 3 car was worth, I haven't seen any guides in years so really don't have a clue.  I've seen barrett jackson auctions but really don't think my car will ever reach that level of perfection unless i get extremely anal about the rebuild.  (quite possible after spending 30k on redoing a stealth that is really only worth 10k)

A very nice 69 R/T that is not numbers matching but matches the vin would be between $25,000 and $30,000 on a good day.  But the price is not like a used car--it depends on the place, the conditions, and the buyer.  Real prices are not predictable.   ??? :-\

tough to make a book, or a list of some sort. prices these days seem to change with the seasons. the list would be good for about a month at best

It really all depends on who wants the vehicle bad enough!!!   But I agree with the above....around 25,000 for a decent non-matching numbers car

They still have old car price guide you can pick it up at most bookstores,  I have August issue it has not changed at all from January, Itry to get one about every 6 months or so, but I don't have it with me here at the Mopad.  I do have my Chrysler standard catalog here with me and it list values in conditions just like old car price guide but it is much lower.  It list a 69 R/T in #3 for $8,400 and a Daytona in #3 $21,600.  If anyone has one of those at those prices please give me a call :o

my guesses right now all just regular #2-3 cars, not numbers matching
regular 68-70 $15-20k
R/T     68-70 $25-30k
of course these change every couple months it seems.. but overall this is about the norm lately, if there is such a thing. of course #'s matching cars fetch a little more.. i'd say 15% or so

I just read an article in Kelly Blue Book,,,re prices on these cars,,,,ie,,,69 Charger....also they refer to "NADA" ??/
they stated the prices on these cars rose dramaticlly in  the past 6 months.....up into the 30-45K range.....
I just "bumped" the insurance on my 69 RT/SE 4 speed DANA car to 45K with Hagerty....I cant believe the prices on these cars,,,,
Hagerty didnt even flinch when i asked them to up the coverage from 30k to 45K,,,,
Mine is not "concours",,,,but is in very good shape,,,,,,,,,

Verry nice cars R2, I dont want to sell my 68 383 #s matching, but if people ask I say $25,000.  If these prices keep up I will need to raise my asking price before someone calls my bluff :yesnod:

USAA recently sent an advertisement out and had the 69 charger listed (it was a general lee clone) and estimated its value at 65k.  I thought this a little high for the normal cars out there.  The old car price guide used to have the #2 cars at 37k  but that was over 10 years ago,  and prices have fluctuated alot since then.  But with a totally restored (non numbers matching) hemi charger clone selling at barrett jackson auctions recently for 120k it really makes you wonder.  I would have figured the cars to be worth quite a bit higher than 25k for a real r/t, especially since numbers matching doesn't really make much difference to the larger crowd unless it is an unmolested orignal with low miles on it.  I was watching barrett jackson last weekend and a 22k mile original 69 roadrunner six pack went for 120k. Heck even the 428 scj mustangs (non shelby) were selling for over 90k.  And I've always had more interest than old mustang folks.  (i've had plenty of stangs and they aren't as rare as the rt/se is.)

I've had several people see the charger sitting in my garage and ring the doorbell offering 15k for it in unrestored condition.   If it wasn't my first car it would have been sold by now at least once.  After 28 years of ownership I don't see it ever leaving my possession.  (at least while i'm still alive).  I find it somewhat humorous when I hear young kids saying the same things about their 15 year old stealths and 3000GT vr4 cars...because i already know how difficult it is to hold onto, store, and keep an old flame car around forever.

well you did ask real value and not BJ or other circus prices.. in the real world, say on a dc.com for sale ad, or moparts. 25-30k for a real R/T is not that low
