How often do brake lines "come loose"?

As some of you know, my Charger was kept for two months at a shop about 700 miles from home (big mistake, I now know).  When I picked up my car, I drove it about 200 miles when the brakes went out.  I managed to get it to a parking lot without hitting anyone or anything, and then trailered it home ($615 rental costs).  Among several other screw ups (painting the rebuilt block the wrong color, having the carburetor adjustments WAY out of whack, having incorrectly installed the throttle linkage, and the auto transmission still doesn't shift at the right times), I almost have to wonder if this company deliberately gave me bad service so that I'd have to keep it there and get another bill.  I took it to a local shop and spent another few hundred on correcting the problems they caused.  Two weeks ago, I requested they mail me the dyno information that Jasper Engines had sent them, and so far I got nothing.  The biggest thing was the brake line.  It was loose at the passenger side caliper and leaking brake fluid every time I hit the brake.  Considering how much worse condition the car was in when I picked it up than when I left it, should I be pursuing legal action?  My car was there for an engine replacement (they pulled the dead engine and installed a rebuilt one from Jasper Engines).  With all the big screw-ups they did, I have to wonder, did they mess with my brakes?  They charged me over $1,300 for the crappy work they did, the bill for Jasper was separate.

I would definitely look into getting some refund for poor work, you probably would win if you take it to small claims court

Brakes lines should come loose as frequently as lug nuts, head bolts, universal strap bolts. K frame bolts should fall out at least once a month.

Stainless stell brake lines should be rechecked at installation as the stainless is a bit harder than the regular soft steel lines.   It's harder to obtain a good "crush" to seal them correctly but once they are sealed,  they're good.

That may or may not have anything to do with your problem.    I'd just as soon have work done local  (preferably by myself) and take the car for several short test runs rather than trying to go 700 miles home.   Trailering it would be my frst choice from a situation like that.

There's a big difference between a shop doing crappy work and a shop DELIBERATELY messing with your brakes.    I'd choose my words carefully.   Be glad you got home safe without damaging anything or anybody.

Yeah, I don't want to take such an accusation lightly.  But I thought it an odd coincidence that, after four years of working fine, the brake line sprung a leak while at a shop that did a lot of things carelessly.
