okay... My dad and I want to convert his 68 from a 318 car to a 440, problem is, we don't have a 440... So I'm hoping that someone here can point me in the right direction as to where to go to get a fully built 440... We do not want a race engine, we're looking for someone that builds quality Street motors that have some umph to em.  The budget is somewhere btwn 6 and 8k....

Thanks in advance.

Aone

This Charger right here is a one of none, that means none before it, none to come.

I am sure you can find what you are looking for and for 6-8 grand you will have a motor with some pretty good ummph

Most of us have 440 laying around.  Check the classifieds there are a few listed.

We build them at the shop all the time -  but we're out in CA...     shipping would kill you -   we put a mild 440 into Chris Jacob's GTX - it was a mild six pack motor which made 466hp at the wheels...        but I am not sure of many places around you who build crate engines ready to run....        6-8K is a nice budget but keep in mind you'll need a trans, driveshaft, radiator...    all those little things add up

Hooray for me!  Shipping won't be as bad, right?  Do you have a site or something we could check out?

Anyone know what the deal is with these YO crate engines?  Are they MP products?  $4k seems a bit low for a 'crate, doesn't it?

Read some of the engine build threads on here, educate yourself, then look around local in your geographical area, for a reputable machine shop.

As stated earlier, a 6-8 K budget should get you plenty of punch from a 440 engine.

Best to stick to a shop that does their own "machining", and "building", complete, and finished.(imho)

Various reasons being; elimination of 1 middle-man, and, that way you know "where the buck stops".

You'd be amazed at how many guys out there, so called "engine builders", couldn't machine a "wheel barrow" if their life depended on it, yet they call themselves "builders" ?

"Even blind chickens get the odd kernel of corn", but generally, best to deal with a shop that does their own machining/building(imho), if you're considering decent power and longevity.
