Last year on the way over to the Monster Mopar in St. Louis my right rear brake unit started leaking around the drum. So I'm just wondering what you guys think would be more cost effective? I have the chance to pick up an entire rear end with the brake assembly on it for pretty cheap, or just get a new drum, and probably replace the lines?

If I'm not mistaken Geno saw the leak as well. It was at his shop when I was putting on a center cap he so kindly gave me, that I noticed it. Then wouldn't you know that the center cap fell off somewhere between St. Louis and Indy on the way back.

It wasn't the brake cylinder leaking??

Always nice though if you can score an entire rear cheap.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

What exactly was leaking? A Wheel Cylinder? Brake Line? Axle Seal? A little extreme and costly to change the Rear End for any of those.

Guess I should have clarified a little better.

Its the brake cylinder that is leaking. And I wasn't planning on swapping out the entire rear end, just picking it up, and using the parts off it I needed for now. Got a chance to pick up an entire rear 8 3/4 with entire brake assemblies for $200. Rear has 3.23 gears in it, which is the origional reason I was looking at it. As my car has 4.10's and was thinking if I was going to drive it to Carlisle that I should pick up a set of 3.23's or even a 2.76 rear. I haven't priced out a brake cylinder yet, but was just more or less thinking outloud in this post. About if I would be the only one trying to talk the wife into spending $200 for an entire rear end, rather than a few bucks for a brake cylinder.

That's a good deal on the 8-3/4.  I would pick it up for the 3.23 pig if it's good.  Need to see if it has a 7260 or 7290 pinion yoke to see if it will match up with your driveshaft.  I would advise against using the old wheel cylinder.  They are very inexpensive.  Just buy a new one of those.
