Looking for some junkyards within a 2-3 hour drive of New York City. Most of the ones locally here in Northern NJ have either closed down or have just late model stuff. Land is too valuable for large, sprawling junkyards like down south or out west. I figure northeast PA or southern NY should have some large ones. Anyone have some good leads??? Please post the names and town they are in so that I can use mapquest to get directions.

There used to be a HUGE one that you could see off the highway near Wilkes Barre, PA on RT84 (I think).

Back in the 80s, before I moved away, I used to frequent a place in the Frenchtown/Flemington, NJ area. I think the name was Manchur's or something similar. Maybe someone that still lives in the area would know if they're still in business. They were unusual at the time because they had lots of old stuff. Back then they even had a whole row of 59 Coronets.

I think that yard is closed or only modern stuff now.  It is off I-81.  I drove by on my way to Carlisile this year and it was a lot smaller then before.  I remember lots of shredded metal and not very many cars.  Couldn't believe my eyes.  :o  This is the one that use to sprawl for what looked like miles along those hills.  It had all the really old stuff on the one end.

I know of a small yard up in sodus, ny.  The guy is a collector of large cars, C bodies and Full size Chevys.  I went up there a few years ago and took a look.  He had lots of n'yorkers, newports, and furys.  I remember a magnum, a barracuda, and a charger.  Most of the cars were pretty trashed though (No offense if he is on this site).  Been sitting out for years and were picked pretty clean too.  Not to mention they were stacked in piles about 8 tall.  It was his dad's junkyard and I think it was his side business, with his full time job helping the old man.  I do remember him having lots of parts stashed though.  Taillights and whatnot.  I was up there a few months ago to buy a 440 he had but it was getting dark so we didn't have time to check the lot.  It was called Juliano's Auto Parts.
