How do I remove timing/distributor gear?

 What is the best way to remove this gear? It does not want to come out of my 340! Help please. Thanks, Rick

my first question, is what have you tried so far

 I use a large screwdriver & rotate the gear so it rises up out of the cam gear & then use needle nose or magnet , often the shaft gets caoted in a varnish & may be tough to pull through the busing it rides in
