On a side note regarding one of my links, I think it's pretty stupid to try taxing oil companies for the purpose of alternative fuel research. I'm sure they would find a way to pass it on to us despite this: "Proposition 87 would prohibit oil companies from passing on the tax to consumers by boosting fuel prices, but the legislative analyst says that ban may be difficult to enforce because of the many factors that determine oil costs." Yea, more ambiguities.

And as I mentioned in one of the other threads, the problem with a product like fuel is that it is used for everything from farming to drag racing (serious business to serious play) which makes it difficult to curb many 'necessary' activities that require gas and diesel. It's not like getting rid of cable TV or drinking water instead of Coke, there are people in many situations who just cannot curb usage. Also, with many big businesses making cutbacks over the years I think there are many more small businesses than there used to be so you've got people who used to drive once to and from work now driving all day to make their living. Then there's China... :P

I am not a die hard conspiracy type of guy, but I do believe the excuses to push gas to the $3.00 mark are nothing but a bunch of crap, and this recent situation and the resulting lowering of the gas prices are definitely a good identifier of the BS that we are being fed.

I still do believe my initial statement troy.  the evidence brought in here has not definitively convinced me otherwise.  I was hoping for a type of enlightenment that can only be brought by the truth, and the truth I believe to desire cannot be found on this forum.  So in hindsight, I will refrain from this topic.

I have taken all the information that has been provided on this site and realized the answer does not lie here, but rather in the minds of the CEO's of the oil companies.  So I did get something out of this, albeit through the process of elimination in regards to informational resources.

And there lies your quandry.

Truth is subjective to your particular point of view. The truth you believe to desire may not be the truth another person believes to desire and their point of view from which they seek it.

My point was that you had your mind made up when you started the thread (and knew where it would end up) and no amount of "available information" was going to change it. I had it all written out nice and neat earlier but decided to just leave the quotes. I believe the answer lies in the Magic 8 ball or possibly in some leftover chicken wings but I can't be sure.

Hey, no knocking the Magic 8 Ball! I bet the CEO of Exxon has one on his desk. Q: "Should we raise the price of oil to $80 a barrel?" A: "Signs point to yes." ;)

Let's keep the party tame guys!   :yesnod:

What are your all thoughts...WITHOUT BEING POLITICAL OR BASHING BUSH OR TALKING ABOUT IRAQ'S POLICIES AND HOW THE U.S. INFLUENCES THEM.... BLAH BLAH BLAH

Asking people to explain oil prices without getting political or bashing OPEC is like asking for an explanation of stupid posts in this board without bringing up Silver R/T. Just can't be done.

Funny it wasn't mentioned too much.  Find out how much of that gallon of gas price you are paying in local / state taxes. I don't have a figure handy but here in WA state it is a lot !

Also- no-one mentioned that a barrel of oil doesn't make only gas. Think of all the petroleum based plastics used in daily life....
