This one's been apart since 1997. I've been so busy building other people's cars as well as mine and my wife's cudas that I've never had the time to finish this one. I bought the crate hemi for my 71 cuda but decided to just put it in this car. I have to admit that I'm surprised at how well the hemi starts and runs. This car is a blast to drive. Too bad that it's been so hot here lately. I can't wait for the temps to drop down out of the 100's so that we can actually drive this thing a little. I'll try to get some more pics of it this week and post them. I bought this car in 1996 for $2800. It was a 318 3-speed and was originally go-mango orange.

Very nice indeed! And glad to hear you plan to use it and not make a 2 ton paperweight out of it.

Congrads Larry. Now you need to post some photos of a few burnouts when the weather aloows, haha. How are them daytona parts coming along also?
Mark

Mark, The heat here in the south this summer has been horrible. It's too hot to work more than a few hours at a time. I still haven't built the new shop which will be air conditioned, but at least the dirt work is complete. We really want to wait to build the molds for the wing car parts until after the new shop is complete so that we can dedicate one of the other buildings to just fiberglass work. We have not changed our minds about the wing car parts, just the gameplan. My wife and I decided that we needed to get the convertible back together before moving on to other projects. There were parts everywhere. The glass was in the master closet, the interior in another closet and boxes of parts all over the main shop as well as the basement. I think I spent more time gathering and sorting parts than I did on the actual assembly. As for starting on the wing car stuff, other than attending the  St. Louis show and SEMA in Vegas, we don't have anything else planned this year. As soon as the temps drop a little, we'll get back on track.

The next project is to get Rene's (bigblocksam) and Howard's (Howie) trunk lids converted to daytona trunk lids and then install Howard's vega plug. I'm seriously thinking about getting my 69 RT/SE out of storage and starting on it as well. We're just waiting on cooler weather to start on the plugs for the daytona nose parts.

I would like to say that I enjoyed building this car, but I didn't. It was apart for so long that I had a hard time remembering where all of the parts were stored. I had moved the car twice and that made it even more difficult. Add to that the fact that my memory isn't what it used to be and that spells disaster. I had to make myself finish this car because I knew that I wanted to start on the daytona stuff as well as my wife's bird clone. My wife kept reminding me..."first things first". At least I have more room in the shop at home now.  Now for the bad news. I really need to sell this one to finance other projects. It's so hot here in Arkansas in the summer that you really can't enjoy a convertible much. We tend to drive the two cudas whenever we go to cruises or shows so this one is kind of an extra car. I'm going to try to take it to an auction in Dallas in November after we get back from sema. I'll set the reserve conservatively at 75 K. I think that would be a bargain for a car like this where absolutely everything is new. The plan is to work my way down to just four cars, the two cudas, the bird clone and the daytona clone. I also keep a gm car for just running around in. I'm currently building a 70 Camaro with a late model LT1 setup to replace my 79 Trans AM. I like driving the gm cars around town since parts are so plentiful in case of an accident. I would never get my cuda out in the crazy traffic that we have around here. These people are nuts.  I manage a GM dealership body shop and can get a lot of the gm parts pretty cheap. I kind of look at my gm cars as disposable.  ;D

That reminds me of a '69-ish Chebby truck I saw a couple months ago at a small car show. One side looked like a show truck, but the other side had a primered door & fender. There was a series of pics on his display stand telling the story...apparently exactly 6 days beforehand, the truck had been hit. The guy had already gotten new replacement body parts from the dealer & had it installed already! :icon_smile_angry:
He replaced the door, fender, rad. support, grille & bumper. One stop shopping!

I know truck parts are a bit easier to get than car parts, but can you imagine if it was a '69 D100 that had been hit? He'd be lucky to just get a bumper that fast.

Anyhoo, thanks for the additional pics, you Chally looks great! ;D
