RODE IN AN 06 CHARGER YESTERDAY

first off, since I am not into the styling of the new charger, or new cars in general, I don't know exactly which model this was.\

was that copper color, with the daytona and hemi callouts all over it, had a little plaque on the dash denoting the production number vs the total number made (485 of 500)  something like that.  hemi/autostick.

Anyway, say what you want about the looks, but that car flat out hauls ass.  my charger has run a 13 flat and this thing felt pretty fast to me.
I have not read any road tests or anything, but If I had to guess, this thing is, at worst, a mid to high 13's ride.  The car belongs to a friend of my boss and my boss is the one who had the car that day and took me, so he did not know if any work was done to it.  It definately had some sort of exhaust, because it was loud.

I think a member here ITSA426 has a '06 yellow Charger R/T Daytona, but i havent seen him lately or talked to him to hear how it rides.

My daughter's friend dad owns Security Dodge here in Amityville, NY and he told me awhile back that these new Charger's do move and will keep up with any second gen. Charger anytime, I told him possibly but not on the "looks" department!  :icon_smile_big: He offered me to take one for a ride, I told him I would one of these days. I'm curious to see, I might take him up on his offer one of these days. Waiting for my Charger to be ready so that I can pull up to his dealership. He wants my car there for some pic's.

Good morning Paul.  Sorry you missed the picnic. Anoka tomorrow?  The '06 Daytona can haul when it wants to.  The best descriptiion I have for it is a 300C with an attitude.  It's quicker than my 440 four speed car and a lot more stable than the 426 car at higher speeds.  So far I love it.  We were actually shopping for a 300C when I bought it.  I like the yellow color but it's not for everyone.  It looks darn nice next to the Rumblebee with the yellow '66 on the trailer behind.  I don't get into the 4 door/name issue; it's just a great car for me.

The styling can only be judged by each individual.  Some will like it, some won't.

With regards to performance, buy, rent or borrow one and judge that for yourself also.  Only you will know if you are kidding yourself with your analysis after your test drive.   :yesnod:

I have yet to drive one, but I have rented a Magnum V-6 and was impressed with the performance of that engine in such a large car.

I can only imagine what the Hemi Charger would do!

the new chargers have grown on me. i now think there good looking cars. Rene

This car is probably as fast or faster than most 2nd gen Chargers too, and it's a four door. It's probably cheaper and gets better mpg than the '06. Not any uglier either. You should buy one.

You do realize you're comparing a compact sedan to a family sized sports sedan correct?   I don't think too many people will be considering both of these choices unless they are wide open to what they are willing to buy.  I, for one, wouldn't even fit in that thing even without anybody in the back seat.  Not a real choice for anybody over six feet tall, IMO...

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Yes, Dave, I well-aware of that. I'm also well-versed in the many facets of sarcasm when talking about the '06 Wanna Bee on this site. I'm merely using the WRX to point out that fast doesn't outpace ugly. ;)

im still not thrilled with the looks of the 4 door, and dont like new car styling in general but yeasterday i saw a magnum that was dark blue with skunk stripes, and i believe white wheels. now i prefer the magnum body style to begin with , but that magnum was baddd azz lookin for a new car! heavy tint on the back door and side windows gave it the "panel" appearance.. if there was a 2 door panel offering of the magnum it would be a really sharp car! possibly almost as cool as the chally imo.

I was real close to leasing a yellow '06 Daytona myself.  The yellow is my favorite color as well...the Tor-Red is a close second though.

Took out the '69 for a ride yesterday and was cruising alongside an '06 SRT-8 Charger....spoke to the owner (older guy) and asked if he liked it....he said its "scary fast".....we both then proceded to get on the cars for a bit.
I could tell he would have walked away from me if he really wanted to.... :(

One of my friends just bought a Chrysler 300 SRT8 and I am hoping to get a ride in the near future. I test drove a Hemi Charger, Hemi C, and Hemi Magnum AWD when we were looking for our last car. I did like the Charger the best out of the three and my wife really wanted the Charger.....we got a 3000 mile loaded '05 Grand Cherokee Hemi instead as it was a much better value.

I took an SRT 8 to 138 MPH at Road America.  It was still accelerating and felt rock solid but I had to slow for a very abrupt left turn.  Try the SRT Track Experience if you want to put one through its paces and then you can compare.  They teach you that a squealing tire is a happy tire.  $300 for a great day!!

The fact is my Daytona will out perform every Charger I own except my 426 in a straight line - but one small turn and the '66 struggles to overcome inertia.  And, the Daytona does it with the AC on, and a good CD coming through Boston Accoustic speakers.  Heated leather seats, sunroof and so much more only add to the experience.

The original Charger could be had as a luxury ride.  The new ones can too.  The SRT attracts the guy that wanted a 426 four speed.  The base SE is far nicer than my no option '66.  The market is probably the same but our demands increased.  Technology gain isn't limited to performance.

Every time I read about all the cool stuff on the new ones I think how much cooler it all would have been if it looked like the old ones. They seem to understand it all now with the new Challenger (at least they eluded to that in some of the interviews) but IMO the '06 is just another run-of-the-mill sedan that goes fast. I'm not knocking anyone who thinks they're awesome but opinions are different and to me the '06 is blasé at best.

I'm the complete opposite Bull. Old Mustangs don't get the looks they used to once Ford rolled out the copycat version a couple years ago. If DCX did that with the Charger, the older ones would lose a certain something. They wouldn't be ignored, but they wouldn't have the same "wow" factor if something new was parked next to it that looked similar. Wait till the Challenger rolls out. While everyone's panties are wet right now, they will also be the same guys pissing and moaning about how many show up at car shows and take 1st place. It's gonna be a scene when the guy with the '70 Challenger gets ignored because some guy pulled in with a new one. That will happen without a doubt. I'm glad DCX went with the Challenger rather than the Charger ;). Let the legend and look live on through the original Charger...no need to try and duplicate it.  :Twocents:

ps- New Chargers rock!!!  ;D

I would agree with most if not all of what you just wrote... had they named the car something else.

dodge freak

Look at it this way-If you could go back in time say 30 years to 1976 and you were to show the people all these new cars how many would be able to guess the name of the  2006 Charger , my bet would be no one. The Ford Mustang, think most would, same with the Corvette. Chrysler screw up big time, they did not plan to bring the Charger back till the last min. so this is what we have. Might as well have a bench seat option too, then at least it could be a 6 passenger car, well it has 4 doors so why not ?

Dodgefreak, how about you go back to 1974 and ask how the Charger would look just 9 years later?...Do YOU think people would know what a Charger would look like? Or even a Mustang?

The name "Charger" was abused long before 2006. It's just takes a little time for some members to understand that.
