Big Block with headers what spark plug wires do you run?

Guess I should have said what color wires you run so the question would not be moved. ;D Troy, Neil or Chris, if you move this post then all what color is your Charger, or what color do you want to Piant your Charger should be in the auto body section. :icon_smile_big:

What wires do have you folks had good luck with and what prices range.

Started the Blowen 440 Project with a Carb for break in. During cam break in I started dropping holes but keepet her going. After cam break in started to check her out. Man, the wires did not fair well, 4 came lose and blistered the boots.

Back in my day Blue Max's wire's where the best. Not sure now. My first set cost me $80.00 around 1984-85. Held up for 20,000 miles plus. Bought the current set of E-stupid new for $50.00. They say Moroso Blue Max Spiral Core EMI Suppression High Voltage / High Temperature 8.0 mm 800 OHM. Pretty sure they are the same wire's I ran in the 80's. Called a local speed shop to check on High Temp Boots and asked if they carry the Blue Max wires, said yes $120.00 a set.

Will do some more diging and see if I can get some teck help from Moroso.

Just wonderng what wire's you Big Block owners with headers have luck with and what you spent? My header's are cheap ones and have no idea who made them neither did the seller.

On the 68 Runner I have Hookers and currently set of Acells wires that I think I paid around $40.00 for in 2002. But hookers are well made headers and thick tube so that might be the reason I am getting by with them.

Boot that I am posting a PIC of is broke open and feels stickey?

By the way, I know what can cause a engine to run lean, carb lean, vacuum leak, timing to far advances, and will be checking that when I get the wires fixed. Temp never got over 170 and oil pressure was 90 PSI.

Ken, the msd superconductors are your best bet. I beleive the universal ones are like 60-70$ and you just put the 90 deg. ends on the dissy side, its easy and if you want to run boot protectors too, you problably wont have anymore problems.   Glad to hear you got the balls up to run it.   I bet its all starting to seem like it was worth while huh? :yesnod:

Joe, I worked up the balls, but feel like they where cut off and handed to me.

Will see if the local shop as the wires and what cost.

Ron, are the one you speaking of the same as Joe posted?

I use the Accel 8.8's.  Other than stock that's the only plug wire I run.  I'm runnin' them in my purpppple Charger with headers.  I keep them nice and neat with looms and have never lost a wire, plug yet.

Wakko

I keep hearing about the Jacob's with ceramic boot but have no personal experience with them.

Yep, the 8.5mm superconductors will work great. They are a very low resistance wire

All Brite, I think the 8.8 are what I have on the Runner, need to check. What did you pay for yours?

Wakko I will ask about the Jacob's with ceramic boot's. I asked the speed shop if they carried ceramic boot's and was told no. But I never asked about Jacob's wires.

Me first I will also look at the MSD wire but think they will be more than I can afford for now.

                        Thanks Guys.

Ken, check out Summit racing. Part number : MSD-31319

There is some type of instant rebate on this item....maybe give them a call to see what's up with the pricing and how much the rebate is for. The advertised price is $86.88 before the rebate, FYI.

Humm, guess we will never see what color should paint my Charger on the main page any longer. :icon_smile_approve:

Well I did find out a few things, first of all my Blue Max wire's retail for $50.00. They also have better grade of Blue Max wires that cost $120.00.

MSD does sell the flexable boots by them self for $6.95 for a pair. Box say's they are straight boots put Perormances Parts Plus said they will refund my money if they break. Hum, did not like it there, only Chevy parts and T-shirt's. I got stares wearing my King Dodge base ball cap. ;D

Also bought 2 Taylor Heat Shield's for 3 and 4 holes.

At this point when I hung the engine on the stand for the mock up I had tested fitted the plug wires. 3 and 6 will need to be dimpled and 3 I see no way to get to it.

would you run these wires? I bought some Wires from Frederick's Dodge off e-bay. The ad said they are the 383/440 and 426 Hemi stock wires. They were only $36 brand new. When I got em they looked kind of thin, definetely not 8 M. They are Orange and have Mopar emblem and then Electronic Suppression G.X.  3-5.0   AATH.  Any one these wires, was this correct for 1970 440? Should I put them on my 440 or will I have problems them being kind of thin (oh yeah I have headers too).

I use jacobs ceramic wires. I had to get them from jegs. I don't know if summit carries them now because I can't get their webpage to work. Heres a link http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=2484&prmenbr=361 . I used 90 degrees for all 8 plugs. They are expensive but they will never melt. I had mine for almost two years and hadn't had a single failure and one boot even touches the header tube. The straight ones might work but I never tried them. The boot protectors don't work if any part of them touches the header tube. They still let the boot underneath melt but the protector looks like new which makes it hard to troubleshoot.

Dan, God it great to see you back on the sort of new site. I have missed you and my spelling is a little better. You know I did a blowen 440 right. 440 is on carb for break in and after that show time.

What I have not melted so far. Air cleaner is off my Road Runner.
