EDIT; Here's the story incase the link isn't working for you.

Tree services owner killed in wood chipper in southern Wisconsin

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (AP) -- The owner of a tree services company was killed after being pulled through a wood chipper, police said Wednesday.

Jeremiah P. Sanders, 30, of Kenosha, used his foot to free a jammed log and he was pulled into the chipper at about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, Pleasant Prairie police spokesman Pete Jung said in a statement.

Co-workers unsuccessfully tried to stop the chipper, Jung said.

Sanders, the owner of J's Quality Tree Service, died at the scene. Occupational Safety and Health Administration was investigating. No foul play was suspected.

Work for me-Some 30 year old guy, owner of a tree service company was killed in a wood clipper machine. A piece of wood was stuck so he used his foot to push the wood in and was pulled in the machine.

Well it doesn't take a genius to know thats not how you free a piece of wood. The poor guy was maybe let go of his regular job and decide to start his own tree service business. Was maybe in a rush or just not be careful and poof ,hes dead. Yeah what a way to go :P

Sounds like another candidate for the 'why women live longer then men award'. That must have been an older model chipper. Every chipper I've used/rented for the last 10 years has a bar across the back that you hit and it automatically reverses the feed.

On the news, they had a news reporter at the chipper where it still was sitting, anyway, it DID have that reverse bar you are talking about, but they say it did not work at the time of the accident.......

Side note; I could not believe the moron reporter either. They just had to interview the old guy who seen the victim go into the chipper (was the elderly owner of the property they were clearing) who was obviously very shaken by seeing it happen and was still crying. AND, they interviewed the nephew of the dead guy who tryed to stop the chipper from running who was also very upset. F'n media sometimes :rotz: (sorry Dave (Strat))

I don't know which was worse, the fact that they even left the truck just sit there like that or the news reporter walking right up to it  :icon_smile_dead:

I think it's a good thing that they went right to it and showed it like it is!! It may keep others from doing just exactly the same thing..

I know I never get my fingers anywhere near a spinning fan blade. I know a guy that wasn't so lucky..... :scared:

shows how trajedies are born out of just enough knowledge and experience.

anyone who does not do this kind of work regularly is super careful around this type of equipment because it scares the shit out of us!

Some friends and I rented a VErmeer turbodiesel chipper a few years back to get rid of some trees we had cut down.  I cannot describe how careful we were, that thing is so damn evil nobody would go withing 10 feet of it.

just goes to show that his guy was just comfortable enough with this machine to stuff his foot in it and hope for the best..

I hate to be so harsh when someone's lost an innocent family member in a horrible accident, but at some point you just run out of sympathy.  A grown adult has to be responsible for not walking off a 100-foot cliff in broad daylight.

I mean, sticking your foot into a wood chipper?  WTF?!?
Horsing around with a loaded shotgun seems mild compared to that!

Wonder who scream louder, the guy getting killed or the other people seeing it ? My father was at work in a Ford plant 25 years ago and some guy got crushed to death cause another guy started the machine not knowing he was in there doing something. He told me the everybody in the factory hear him scream, not something I would like to ever hear.

I knew a complete idiot back in high school who went to work at the local lumber mill as a welder after he graduated. He and some of his idiot coworkers thought it was a good idea to go inside the enclosed wood chipper at the mill to do the welding real quick-like without tripping the safety switch because it supposedly saved time. He's in about a million pieces right now.

The same guy, when he was still in high school, was driving down the road and opened the door while moving to spit out his chew. He crossed the center line and tagged another car driven by girl a few years older than me and she ended up paralyzed. Some people are so dumb and/or scatterbrained they just can't help but kill themselves... and others.

A Friend of mine got ate up in the local paper making company, to this day, everytime I drive by a tree service chipping wood, I drive faster so I dont happen to see somebody getting ate up.
