Hey guys, i need to ID some 4 speed parts, specificly a shifter mechanism and flywheel.

The flywheel (6 bolt) has 143 teeth and has these #'s cast in :

9903 & 11198

The shifter mechanism looks like a pistol grip (slotted for handle) unit but one ear is broken off. It's definately made by Hurst with these #'s :

190331f
re25561
3216274
3306126

Thanks in advance, Ron

as far as I know all 143 tooth flywheels were cast with the saem # but had different depth & positioned holes for balancing for different applications
can`t help with shifter #s

Ron, are there any #'s on the remaining 2 shifter levers. Their pretty small and sometimes hard to see.

Thanks guys, i found another stamping on the flywheel with pn ; 2843214....found the same item listed on e-bay as a flywheel for "internally" balanced BB mopar. Just trying to confirm.

No markings that i can see on the shifter ears....but it's definately for a 6-pack. I've heard that Hurst will rebuild these. Hopefully that is true.

Hurst will rebuild any Hurst shifter
or you can do it yourself

firefighter3931

Neil, i checked on the Hurst website and they don't list the parts for sale. It appears that they want to rebuild it themselves and not have others do it. The rebuild fee is $90 which isn't too high (I think  ???) but i'm not sure what they go for new. This shifter is for a bayonet style pistolgrip handle, btw.

the B&E body had differnt levers , so they will most likely reuse those , the shims & pivots etc are universal to any Hurst shifter , have you tryed disassembling it & cleaning / relubing it o rdoes it realy need a rebuild ?
most truck Hurst shifters can donate these parts , only the levers are different

Ron, the flywheel is a '67-69 11" -383,440 internal balance. Which lever is broken off on the shifter. Unfortunately Hurst won't sell any parts to anyone since Mr. Gasket took over. I had been buying parts and rebuilding shifters for 30 odd years and even I'm out of the picture now. To get those #'s for me you just need to remove the stem nut and bolt, gently pry out the rear plate, remove the barrel tube and you can then slide out the complete main stem. The #'s will be stamped at the top of each lever just above the barrel hole, from there I can tell you which shifter it is, and where you can get good donor parts from, good luck.

It needs a rebuild as it's been sitting for many years and is pretty gummed up.  :P One of the ears is broken off so that needs to be replaced while it's being freshened up. Hurst also says that it uses teflon sliders when they are refurbished/rebuilt so i'm thinking a rebuild isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm in no big hurry....this swap is a year away so i'll just send it out while gathering all the other parts.  Thanks Neil  ;)

Thanks TecM, the ear that is broken off is the one closest to the shifter handle mount, if that makes sense. Thanks for the flywheel info, that confirms what i was hoping would be the case.  :icon_smile_big:

I'm just gonna send the shifter in for a rebuild....it needs it and the website says they use teflon sliders so i might as well have it done.  :yesnod:
