How easy to do exhaust

Can I do this job without welding, or do I take it to the pros.

I figure I have to hook it up to a point anyway so I don't get arrested driving to the shop, why not just do it myself.

How do you line everything up?
How many hangers do you use, and what type?

Have a complete system from magnaflow with some hangers and such allready

this is for a Challenger with headers, 2.5 exhaust and an x pipe.

Heath, there should be hangers behind the mufflers and at the end of the tailpipes. I prefer to weld the collectors & extension pipes and clamp the front and back of the mufflers....cleaner look. I haven't used or installed a Magnaflow kit so i can't say how well it will fit, or not. If the kit was designed for a header type system it should be pretty close allthough you might end up doing some trimming here and there to get everything lined up.

I found the holes for the muffler hangers.
I mocked them up to the muffler. It seems pretty easy as long as I don't have to be too specific how far the muffler sits back, I think I can do this.

One issue I can't figure. The collecter that attaches the head pipe to the headers, not the one on the header, is the exact same size as the head pipe 2.5 I.D.
Can I just take these to the shop and have them flared a little to slide over, just so I can hook them up long enough to take to the shop.

So, Ron, do you reccomend the headers get welded to the head pipe?
Otherwise all I can think that is left to weld, if I am clamping the mufflers front and back, is the exhaust tips.

Heath, leave the collectors on and have the head pipes welded onto the adapters....you want to be able to drop the exhaust system if need be. A muffler shop will be able to butt weld the two pipes together. I like the Percy's dead soft aluminum gaskets on both the header and collector flanges ; they seal up very well and are reusable if you ever have to pull the exhaust off.

I bought the 3" Flowmaster U-fit series from Summit, but it required a lot of fitting because it wasn't specifically for my car, but the kit did come with plenty of mandral prebent pipe to make sure you had enough. So you are one step ahead of the game if you have a kit designed specifically for your Chally. On the pieces I had to cut and didn't have a flare to slip over the mating pieces I rented one of those exhaust tube flares from Auto Zone and it flared the pipe just enough to slip the mating piece in about 1" or so to get a nice weld around it. I wasn't good enough to butt weld the pipe in areas where I couldn't cut straight enough and had gaps. :rotz: I welded everything except the muffler. I also went with the X pipe and it made it a little more challenging because of my Gear Vendor set up. Here's some pics.

Hope this helps.

I used the TTi system on my '69 and it took about 3 hours to install.  No welding.  Everything fit great!

COKE

I have the Universal "X" kit from summit( Wich means that i had to do a lot of job)Dinomax mufflers and TTI tail pipes.
If i were you,i would buy the entire kit from TTI with a couple of Dynomax or other brand of mufflers.
I bought the tail pipes only and it was the biggest stupidity that i have done.
Buying the entire kit(Tail and head pipes) i would have to save a lot of money,a lot of job and a lot of headaches...And keep in mind that i,m in Spain and here the TTI kits are very much expensive than  the US.

two questions now.

I have the pipes hanging from the car up to the muffler. One side is fitted into the header the other ends about 3 inches too far to the left. I am guessing that I have to cut the head pipes?

What are the total amount of attaching points tp the body? Is it just the muffler hanger and the collector connection?

HEy Shakey how much did the exhaust (TTI) cost? I am looking for a complete set up from hp manifolds to the rear bumper. thanks 70DC :icon_smile_big:

Yep, the pipes exiting the X towards the front will have to be trimmed down a bit. They will need to be cut right at the X and not on the collecter end.

I installed the same TTI system and it cost me around $ 860 - 890 +/-. Can't recall and my receipts are at home. Awesome system to install!
