I have to do the same thing.  I plan to tack a piece of 1" squre tube between the uprights just to keep everything solid until I cut out and replace the bottom.  Don't want the whole front of the car to flex and get out of alignment.   ;D

If its just the very lower you can scribe around to line it back up. Does anything bolt up to it? You could screw it in place with sheet metal screws or vice grips and trial fit anything that might bolt up. Otherwise i think its pretty straight forward replacement. If it was the upper you would have to  measure across the engine comp to make sure its square. If the lower section was damaged you might want to straighten any areas while its still together. What car and year? I would have to look and see what might be involved.

i started it today, i measured the distance from the front of the frame to the edge of the core support and every where else i could with a ruler and marked my measurment above where i was going to be working with a silver paint pen.i hope this helps putting it back im going to use a grinder on the spot weld to keep from getting in the frame .its a 73 charger im working on .im thinking after it gone i could get a big c clamp to tempory hold it while i weld it ,i will let you know how it works.thanks
