69 RT Charger HEMI on EBAY.. ? FAKE ?

I attached a post of a car for sale on Ebay,,,,I think i have seen this before,,,and thought it had been suspect in the past.... Sounds like a scam.........
1200 original miles? RT hemi bid starting at $100

Definitely suspect.  1200 original miles but they redid the motor?

Read - it's not an original Hemi. The ad states that he still has the numbers matching motor which has 1,500 miles. The ad also states at least twice that the car has 1,200 miles but the odometer picture clearly shows 1,301. Maybe they've been out driving it? The car has clearly been completely rebuilt/modified/painted - apparently twice since he states that there was Bondo in the rear corners. I think there's a lot of information missing but I don't know if it's necessarily a scam. Maybe it is a scam but they swiped the pictures and description form an improperly built clone...

Possibly a drag racer when new?  The A34 Super Track Pack 4.10/4speed would lead one to think that.

Some of the low mile (former race car) Hemi Cudas put their miles on 1/4 mile at a time.

The member location is "United Kingdom" but the car is located in the U.S.?

Not completely impossible but that's the earmark of the overseas scam.
Add that to the "restricted to pre-approved buyers", a ridiculously low "But It Now" price, AND the no reserve auction format and you've got someone fishing for eBay usernames to hack...

I clicked the link thinking it would take me to an ebay page, which it did for about 1 - 2 seconds and then the address in my browser was www.geocities........

This is what is in my browser after clicking the link.

It looked just like an ebay page but after scrolling down for a bit it wasn't done that well.

I thought the site looked pretty legit,,,but again,,,havent bought any high price items of ebay,,,so it is good you guys know what to look for ,,, spot potential problems.. and help avoid getting burned..

I saw the same type of ad for a beautiful black '68 Charger R/T with Magnum wheels on it that was sould a couple of years ago on eBay, had palm tree's in the back.  I had that car as my background.  Then I saw the same car pop up on eBay with a crazy low Buy It Now price, seller out of the UK, I emailed him and said the car looked very familiar.  I flagged the car and was watching the auction.  The next day the car was taken off and there was some sort of eBay message about it.  Smells the same.

There no VIN # listed-thats a big turn off for me, might very well have been a 318 car and or many more miles were on it then claim. With the VIN you can look up stuff and even pay to find out the old owners. Would never bid on a car without those # and anything more than a few grand without first looking at it. Pictures are worthless, no way of knowing how old the pictures are or even if they are all the same car.

Ok, actually I was wrong. The ad has changed - the real ad says the bidding is up to $3,000 and there is no BIN. The seller added a comment and in the comment is an embedded Flash movie which does the redirect to the Geocities page. This bypasses anyone who has javascript or meta refreshes disabled. Pretty sneaky since it's difficult to disable Flash once it's installed in a browser.

Shakey, I quoted you because you were the first to mention that it takes your browser to a Geocities link - very observant. Most people never would pick up on that and they'd "sign in" to what they think is eBay to bid on this once-in-a-lifetime deal. Javascript is a scripting (kinda like programming) language that is commonly used on web sites for all sorts of things including forms validation/submission, scrolling text, and even drag-n-drop content. Most browsers allow Javascript code to run unless it is specifically turned off. Unfortunately, some people have figured out that they can do some evil things by manipulating other people's browsers which makes it rather dangerous to go surfing the web while vulnerable. Porn sites are notorious offenders (hey, you didn't think those naked chicks were really free did you?). Javascript and/or Active Scripting as well as Java is easily turned off in the options menu of your browser. You'll need it for sites like Gmail and Hotmail to work though so it's a good idea to figure out how to set up security "zones" for sites you trust (like this one!).
