I almost have to agree with Vainglory here. When the Charger came out - even though I can't stand the looks - the underlying argument was something to the effect of "but it's so fast". So, if I get to hear about how fast it is all day then the V6 model is really a non-issue. Now, if the Challenger looks good I don't care what engine they stick in it. I think the Prowler did fairly well even with that modified blender motor they stuck in it. Mustangs sell with a V6 because of the style (and the fact that most "normal" people want basic transportation - not a race car). The Camaro will do well with a V6 I'm sure. If DCX can save a little money and build a class winning car by only having one engine option then I think it's great. If they screw it up though they don't have a lot of options. It makes sense to release the "Big Dog" first to grab all the marketing attention they can. If a V6 model follows a year later to appeal to the people who like the car but don't need the power then it's much better than the alternative of releasing a car with all the looks but no power only to get slammed in the media and lose momentum.

And no, I doubt anyone will be 100% happy with it but it's still better than just dreaming about a car that someone might produce some day.

No doubt that the first Chally's off the line will be loaded to the hilt with all the options boxes checked..............DCX makes more profit obviously from them. Lets not factor in the Dealer 'extra' mark ups that they will add to these cars when they arrive..............I can see them asking 35k or so for them. Way out my budget for a family car. Gone are the days when you can order specific things and not have a something else tied to the package, "You want a 6 speed tranny? Well the 'performance light group' has to come with that adding another $3,560.35 cents."

My '70 has a 318 and I'm perfectly happy with it, I'm secure enough in my ego to take the flak from the big block guys! DCX wants you to believe that all the e-body Challengers were barn storming hemi breathing monsters..............that of course is not true. Plenty of them came with /6's and 318's.....grocery getters for those who wanted the style but didn't care for 13 second time slips.

If they build a v-6 6 speed I'll have one.............and I'll park it proudly next to my lowly 318 Charger.

I went by the Dodge dealership yesterday (since I'm looking into buying an '06 Charger in the near future). I was talking to the salesman and I got around to asking about the Challenger. It's gonna be out next year as an '08 model and it WILL have a v6. The V6 should be priced slightly higher than the v6 Chargers. Now we all know that most of the time salesmen are talking out of their ass or are misinformed...but I tend to believe this guy because instead of trying to talk me into buying the Charger right then and there, he actually said that if I really want the Challenger I should just hold off on buying a car until they come out.

BTW - you haters will just love this. Apparently DCX has another hit on their hands, especially the v6 cars. This dealership only had R/Ts and Daytonas because the six bangers are 'selling out' everywhere. This was kinda discouraging, since this means there won't be any "all 06's must go" sales at the end of the year.... . I might have to go 'pre-owned'.

lol...that's not entirely untrue. Though I was just 'doing my homework', if they'd had a car I really wanted and they'd given me the right deal, I would have bought it.

that salesman really got me thinking. I really don't need a new car right now - i guess i'm just fed up and tired of my current car. So I'm kinda torn on the issue - I can wait a year, but then who knows if ill even be able to afford a Chally, with dealer markups and whatnot.

On the other hand, my car already has 110K+ miles on it...in another year it might die (it is a chevy, after all) or the trade-in/sale value will be ridiculously low. Maybe I should go ahead and buy the Charger, then wait 2-3 years and trade it in for a 'pre-owned' chally. I might even be able to afford one with a Hemi by then.

Oh you have a trade in ? Well we waited till our buick had over a 180,000 miles on it not sure how much it stop lighting up after 155,000 and we got $1000 for it ! But it ran good and look great just had to turn the headlights on for the rad fan to come on, ha ha. I wired a relay in to turn it on, one of the fans shorted out and there was no power going to it. Change all 3 relays and the fuses were fine so the heck with drop a bunch of money in it I just rigged it up for $20.

Yeah that Challenger won't be cheap I bet, its your money. I would not buy it but I am not you. The time to buy one is right now before the 2006 are all gone. When we got our new buick the one we wanted was 200 miles away. The dealer went and pick it up for us , just took a few days. Still is a new car and if YOU like it then get it.

I would like to see V6's and V8's in both the Chargers & Challengers. 

I'd also to see a few minor visual cues that tip-off a V8 model from the rest (like a small hood bulge, some badges, a stripe somewhere, etc).
And the factory should NOT water the cars' image down by putting these things on V6 cars even as extra-cost options. 

I've got nothing against stylish options for the V6 cars, but if a V6 owner wants to build a true "V8 clone" then they should have to go to the dealership parts department and do it themselves.

Most people are too lazy to do so these days, and often times they see what a "bargain" it is to make them into a v8 clone than if they got the parts themselves.

Its more than being "lazy" the dealer parts are so much $ its not worth doing. I would think it be like the Charger , one exhaust pipe for V6 's and duel's pipes for V8 's, might be a few more but thats the best way for me to tell.
