  Dodge Challenger

LaSorda surprised absolutely nobody when he flew to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the Pepsi 400 stock car race last month to announce that the popular Dodge Challenger concept will become a production model in 2008. The Challenger was last made in 1974.

The new Challenger will be built on the LY platform, which is basically a re-engineered version of the LX platform used for the 300, Charger and Magnum. The Challenger will have a wheelbase 4 inches shorter than that of the Charger sedan.

The car will be priced higher than its main rival, the Ford Mustang. It will be equipped with the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. An SRT-8 model will pack the 6.1-liter Hemi V-8. A V-6 model is not expected.

Well To all the Guys for DCX that might be snooping around... I'm Currently saving my  to buy the challenger... I'm 22 (almost 23) and i figure by the time i'm 25 and my car insurance rates are down i'll beable to get a good used car.. or maybe even a new car... concidering the newest car i own is an 84 this is a big deal... I'm the mopar man in my circle of friends... and my friends would sure love to hear that they are not making a V6 model... because if they only make the Hemi cars then i know they will be outta my price range... but by 2008 and the time i'm 25 maybe one of these good used cars will be in my price range...

My uncel is a Mach1 collector... what can i say...

Uck.  Don't get your hopes up on that charger redesign... read further; it says one of the primary goals in the redesign is cross-platform compatibility with the Mercedes stuff.  Maybe they'll slip in some actual good design, but it doesn't sound like that's the plan.

I cought that one too..guess it wasnt too popular since i cant even find a pic of an 82 challenger (im not sure on what years they were made), however there are a few pics of its sister the suporo.I guess dodge really didnt make them but they did sell them with there name on them. when i was a kid our neighbors had a suporo, it wasnt a bad riding lil car as i remember.

Yeah there was some front wheel drive with a turbo 4 banger in 1982 that Chrysler called the "Challenger" they were all over the place when it was new. To be honest it was ok, I remember seeing one going over 100 mph on the freeway from around 60mph, not to bad and they got very good millage IDK what but it was much more than 10 what most cars got then. The car was very light and small and must have been made very cheap cause they are all gone now. 2.2 turbo or something like that.

The real challengers were made until 1974 thats what should have been said.

Yes just look on e-bay for any , nope all I seen was 2 brochure's when they were new. Yeah 2.2 it had and a nice paint job. Man I can't believe they are all gone, back in the day you could see one almost everyday, people drove them hard and they were made cheap, they all rusted out and blew the motors. If you look on e-bay all the time 1 or 2 must be still around, why anybody would want one now ?? There is so many better front wheel drive cars now.

Why shouldn't be class warfare?Since when does the priveledge of owning a fast car belong to someone who has money? All I want is a bare bones, 2 door Mopar. No fancy options. No A/C ,Stereo,Power Windows, Cruise,Seat Heaters,ABS,or GPS( I can read a map ).Everyone wants a fast Mopar but they buy all the options they can.I want a car built on the Road Runner principle.Until then,I'll never buy a new car.

I don't even want air bags, cat. converters, plastic bumpers. Power brakes maybe, power steering maybe again but why make the cars come with them. ? Cause thats what the insurance company's want and big business gets what they want and we end up paying for it.

The first thing I did when I got my car was to rip the ignition, carb and exhaust manifolds out and put in MSD, Holley and Headman parts in it. When I ever get another car most likely a whole lot more crap is coming out of it.

I thought maybe some of you might be interested in this illustration I
just received from Jack Thomas. This photo, along with letters proposing
that DaimlerChrysler build and sell a new Challenger lightweight Hemi Super
Stock package car in the same way that they did the 1964, 1965 and 1968 Hemi
Super stock cars in the past. I sent a letter and proposal to Jon Clark and
Daivd Hakim of Mopar Performance/Direct Connection and Jack forwarded my
letter and a futher note and this photo to Dr. Zetsche. Jack had this
illustration made to show what it could be.
Chrysler has the unique opportunity to take advanatge of this new car
and bring back the excitement we knew in the 1960s. The NHRA rules
essentially invite the OE manufacturers to build a package car with a
minimum of 50 units and we are hoping they do just that and more. Hints from
Mopar Performance indicate that this may really happen.
